Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Alero
Start engine ,disconnect neg battery terminal if engine stops renew the alternator ,if it keeps running take the alternator back if its still under warrenty as it will be the warning light control inside the alternator

Look at the connecting block and wires.
Not sure about this but it sounds as if a wire is not connected properly. Some have a single wire not with the block. It may even be a separate earth wire
