This is a very common problem with many of the mid 2000 Ford truck and SUV overhead consoles. The console is very prone to internal failure. If the dome lights work but the compass unit does not then it is a faulty computer unit. I offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee, check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com
There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!

The compass and outside temp on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma quit working. Is there a fuse for this unit and where would I find it?

Are your cruise control, dome, and tail lights also out? If so then it is a fuse. If not then the control unit has gone bad internally. You may be able to get it fixed under your warranty.
If it is not covered by your warranty, check out
www.autoclockrepair.com. We offer a very reasonable repair solution.

My console the leather is cracking in the center and the light where the direction went out

There is no good repair for those console lids.
You can either try the dealer for a repacement, or a wrecking yard, or you might want to do an online search for a replacement.

Your compass/temp unit could have gone bad, here again, replacement is the answer. But you should check the power going to it first, to make sure it isn't a blown fuse or a cut wire going to it. To test for power, take the unit down, and using a 12v circuit tester, check the power leads going to i (both the + and the - leads)
