Question about 1988 Ford Taurus

I am having a problem with my alternator. I have been told there is a fuse that will interupt the charge getting from the alternator to the battery. Is this true and if so, which fuse would it be?

You can have your altenator tested at an autozone, advance auto for free while it's still on the car,or you can check it yourself by starting the car, while running disconnect the positive cable,be careful not to let that cable touch anything. if the car dies, the altenators bad. as far as a fuse, you may have a fuseable link, but those are usually for the starter.someone may have done some other wiring to it.i would check the altenator first though.also make sure your belts tight and the altenator is plugged in. check the plug on the altenator to insure it's plugged in all the way.make sure your battery cables are tight. if you decide to go to a parts store to have the altenators good, have them check your battery also. it's free.if your car runs fine until you park it at night and then next morining it will not start,it may be bad battery.just thought i would throw that in,just in case.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

If your battery isn't charging, first you should make sure all the terminal connections are clean and tight. Also make sure that the battery cables are not corroded and in good solid shape.
The part that controls charge from the alternator to the battery is called the voltage regulator. It's part of the alternator. You'll need to replace the alternator to get a new voltage regulator. Chances are they have both failed if the battery isn't charging.

Where is the alternator fuse for a 2004 dodge stratus

alternators need a voltage from the battery to work as they have no residual magnetism in the fields . If it won't keep it's charge then have a load test done on the batter as it is most probably dead

make sure the cables are both good if they have a spot that feels flimsy the wires inside are likely corroded and the current is not running through it properly. a simple charging system check would be recommended.

Hi,I have a Alfa 2003 156 2.4 JTD. All me warning lights came on and the mechanic told me that the battery and the diode box was shot. He replaced both. It lasted for about a month and the same thing...

Perform a voltage drop test across the battery (charge wire) circuit to the alternator. Corrosive or high resistance spots created in the fuse or path will render the alternator inoperable even though there's nothing wrong with the alternator.

I have a 97 Sable and battery light came on and everything started going wacky. Lost all guages, speedometer, RPMs, etc. All lights came on my dash. Then all my lights went out and the car died. I was told...

that's becasue the new abattery went dead because it was not charging. The battery light must be OFF to charge the battery. Take it back to whoever fixed it. May be a bad wire betwen battery & alternator too.

check the 175 amp mega fuse in the engine compartment.

cehck this ground for a good connection - G104

check the 20 amp fuse for the charging system. Fuse 26 in teh engine compartment fuse box.

Replaced alternator and battery is good but not charging

I found the problem YEAH. It was the fuse that is in the side of the fuse box under the hood, Its where the battery wire from the alternator connects thru a fuse to go to the battery, Its one hundred and something volt fuse. It took care of the problem instantly.... Thank you all for your replies...

Fuses for 2002 mustang gt

There is no fuse for the alternator. If the alternator is working properly, it should charge the battery. Have you had the alternator tested? That is where I would start. Remember, just because it is new, doesn't mean it can't be broken.
