In the trunk, remove the plastic caps for the storage net. Use a 10mm socket to loosen and remove the three nuts holding in the taillight assembly. The entire assembly will come loose.
Twist the socket for the bulb you are replacing and it will pop out. I would recommend replacing both of the stop lights at the same time - two on each side.

Taillight works when headlights are on, but does not shine brighter when braking or signaling

Change the bulb. When you press the pedal the brake switch changes the circuit to the 21w brighter circuit for the brake light.

How do you replace a turn signal switch on a 1978 Buick regal

follow the steps and fix it. God bless you
Determine what type of taillight bulb you need to purchase. The 1157 is used in all vehicles in which the brake light and turning signal use the same bulb. The 1156 is used when those two lights are not used by the same bulb.

  • 2 Access your taillights through the rear of your vehicle, typically through the trunk. Pickups and many SUV's have an access panel in the bottom of the bed area. Consult your owner's manual if you are unable to determine how to access the taillights.
  • 3 Unscrew the socket to replace the bulb, or simply unscrew the bulb itself.
  • 4 Remove the packaging from around the new taillight bulb. Grasp the replacement bulb with a cotton towel or hankie. The oils on your skin can cause the bulb to blister and burst, drastically shortening its lifespan.
  • 5 Secure the replacement taillight bulb in its proper location and test to ensure it functions properly.

Taillight is out looks like there is a fuse and other wires and not much of a way to get to the bulbs

The tail lights are in a pod which has the red lens that you see from the back of the car. It is held in by 3 plastic nuts accessible from inside the trunk. Take those off and the pod will pull out a few inches. The wires enter the pod at the light holders. These twist about 90 degrees to remove. Pull out with the lights. Then pull the lights themselves out of the holder.

    Reverse to install.

How do you change the brakelight on a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

pop the trunk and you should see two screws along the rear taillight assembly. remove the screws and the taillight assembly should pop out. you can then twist the bulb and pop it out along with the harness, put the new bulb in and reverse.

If it's your 3rd brake light, the bolts holding it in against the rear window will be found inside your trunk along the top side of your trunk (get in and look up)

    Taillight out on 2001 xterra

Pop your rear tailgate. Look inside for an access panel(s). In SUV's they're usually right behind the light assemblies on the inside. They'll either have screws or pop-outs. You may even have to remove part of the interior panel.

Once the panel is removed, access the light panel from behind and remove bulbs.
