Question about 1997 Ford Aerostar Extended

1 Answer

1997 FORD Aerostar Van, turn signals and flashers are not working. Even with the flasher "not working" I am not getting the turn signal light light to come on and hold. Figured out that the flasher buss setup in the 1997 was changed from what they show in the owners manual. I had a Ford flasher connected to the fuse box with a special bracket. I also saw another part connected separately, but I don't know what it is for. I have finally replaced the Flasher Buss with FL 34 from AutoZone. It is not working still. What is my next test I need to run? What was that extra fuse connected to the fuse box?

how do I take off the ignition switch to remove the top cover of the steering column?

great news!! The flasher switch is my issue. It must be bad. When it is on, it overrides the flasher bus and the rear lower brake lights and disengages both of them. The rear middle/upper brake light works still. When it is off, it allows them to work as normal.

You need to check fuses for parking lights, brake lights, and the other fuse could have been an add on for sound system or a towing package for alternative lights for a trailer or camper. you should have 2 flashers one is for 4 way emegency flashers and the other is for turn signals if all this is good, check for bad turn signal switch itself.when you turn the turn signal switch on does it click? see any smoke coming from steering column? if you ever see smoke at anytime coming from that turn signal switch, disconnect the battery immediatly! hope this helps and thank you for choosing

I have checked all fuses and they looked fine. No smoke from the column. If the turn signal switch is bad, could that effect the flashers switch in any way?

The turn signal switch does not click at all.

I have a 1990 ford areostar van the turn signals dont work, left, right, front, back. The emergency flashers work. When I turn them on before a turn they do shut off after the turn. Just NO lights come on

Check your fuses for the turn signal - also the relay unit could be bad - these are located drivers side just below the steering column (there should be a removable panel there) - I have an 89, and that is where it is on mine.- google aerostar fuse dia and you should be able to find the fuse box layout, so you know the ones to check.

I would have said to check a bulb, but since the flashers work, you know it's A) not a bad bulb, and B) not anything with the wiring...

Good Luck

No left turn single

assuming you have check both front and rear signal lights and they are working then it sounds like the signal flasher is not working for the left side only.put on the hazard flashers to check bulb operation and if the bulbs work then the only thing in the system is the turn signal flasher not working for the left side.the signal flasher looks the same as the hazards but is a different flasher located in the same area as the hazard.

No turn signals or emergency blinkers

Sounds like a multifunction switch, work the emergency flasher button up and down a few times, then attempt to work the turn signals if the signals work then you will need a multifunction switch.

My turn signals on my Ford Aerostar won't work. Checked all Bulbs, fuses, turn signal switch, but my flashers work. What now? Thanks

Replace the flasher unit, it is usually located on or near the fuse box, if this fails it will disable the turn signals.

Hope this helps

Turn signal don't work or the flashers?

If you still have flasher problems, I read on Google to spray WD-40 down in and around the hazzard flasher button, then press it up and down several times...and BINGO...all flashers and signals worked again....just had some dirt and dust in the wiring....

Signal and emergency ligths stop working

I would check the bulbs, first with just parking lights on - making sure all light - then to see if brake lights work.

If brake lights work, check you parking/signal lights, as they may be of the "two filament" variety. If this is the case, and they are not burned out, check to make sure that the FLASHER module works and that the button for the EMER FLASHER works.

If either is not working, neither will your turn signals, as they depend on the flasher module.

Good luck !!
