Dealer only encrypted software ,fault with the ECU by the sound of it ,if this is a europeon market vehicle then its impossible to read software anyway ,vehicles can only be diagnosed with a code reader on american market vehicles ,something to do with the emmision test ,they use a probe in europe which is placed up the exhaust for the emmisions ,

99 Saab 9-3 Turn-Key cranks over but wont start. It's A 5 speed manual if you pull it it starts but not by the key. It reads key not accepted. What is wrong?

Inside the key close to the blade is a small chip that the ecm needs to receive the code from to allow it to start the engine there is a pickup coil in the plastic surround the steering lock barrel if the connector is dodgy you can get a key error or if the chip has moved out of position in the key same result
the code has to be read and accepted before it will let the engine start

I took in my car to get the tires changes and then when they tried to turn it on the car read sterring whhel locked..... What do I do?

Hello jeca619,

This is a common error message, the steering lock will have been engaged whilst they were dealing with the tyres.
When you come to put in the key turn the wheel slightly before turning the key and the error should not come on, however if it does you should be able to clear the error with the clear button.

If you get a range of error codes it is best to have the battery checked if over 12 months old.

I have a jaguar xj8 2001 which used to run fine until one day when i parked my car on my way back from office when I parked it all the car windows were closed but when i came back to the car just after...

the ecm itself has a fuse, look for that first-if it does prove to be good, you probably have a bad ecm, and the window being down part way might indicate a short somewhere-are all fuses and fusible links good?

1997 ford truck cannot get it out of park. Replaced brake light switch assembly.

The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator (3Z719) mounted at the base of the steering column tube (3514). If the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is continually on unless the brake pedal is depressed. The shift lock actuator is the logical culprit. Check to see if it's getting voltage when the brake pedal is depressed. If yes: the unit is either faulty, weak or stuck. I can provide wire numbers and colors if necessary. I may need the engine size and Trans. code found on drivers door sticker. Good luck! Aoogha

Chrysler 2003 ignition key wont turn

your key may be overly worn and need replaced, but try jiggling the key and steering wheel at the same time. if that doesnt work try sraying a penetrating oil, like WD40 or PB Blaster, into the lock cylinder. it could also be the gear shift safety switch not disengaging or a faulty ignition switch
