Question about 1996 Cadillac DeVille

2 Answers

I had the suspension on my 1996 Cadillac DeVille converted from air to coils to the tune of $1686.95 and used bushings for $398. I asked them to stop my car from bouncing/sliding when I hit bumps, car still does the same thing. I have asked them to correct the problem but they claim they don't feel anything. Should I get my money back and why is my traction control and service air ride control still on if they so called fixed the problem?

Some thoughts:

Oh, ok, well this is a modification that is usually not recommended by my instructors from auto mechanics school, even though it is possible to perform.

The traction control problem likely has to do with the wheel speed sensors not giving a readable signal to the traction control computer which is integrated with the ABS.

The service air ride control problem likely has to do with a signal to the ride control not getting a proper resistance which should be present when the air shocks are keeping the car at the correct ride level height.

I have to say that on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limo, I don't experience any bouncing/sliding when hitting bumps.

And, Cadillac, has a good reputation for having a good ride, on most of their car lineups.

In addition, I thought that the stock car had coil springs as well as air shocks, and that the modification you refer to may only replace the air shocks with regular shocks.

I would hope that after spending that amount of money that the problem would be solved. Try to get a warranty solution, but I'm afraid that any technician that modifies the suspension in this way may not be inclined to give a full refund, if the parts are already installed and used for any length of time.

I would, try, however, to get a refund or try to follow up and see what can be done about this problem.

I wish you luck in solving your ride problem.

I have the same abs problem that you have with the abs and traction control lights going on about the same time due to a bad sensor. However, it seems to go on and off randomly, and when it is really frigid, the system actually works. And, that's when I need it, when it is really cold and icy. Therefore, I don't feel like changing the hub assembly, at this point in time, which would cost me about $792 for the part for the Heavy Duty Suspension that I have on my Limousine.

Good luck on getting your problems solved at your automotive service center.

    Have a good new year.

Need to locate the air pump that supplies the rear shocks.

The pump is back under the rear of car, but by now, the shocks are sure to be leaking, which causes the pump to run too much burning it up. Best fix is to replace rear shocks with coils and dump the self leveling feature, or prepare to pay big bucks to replace most components.

What would cause the rear end of my 1996 cadillac deville to drift back and forth

Something is broken or badly worn. There's a lot of potential causes so you'll need to get someone to look and make a proper diagnosis, but most commonly it will be due to worn or perished suspension bushings. If so, the suspension will need to be dismantled in order to fit new ones.

It can also be due to corrosion where the suspension mounts to the bodyshell or to the chassis, but this is all useless conjecture until you get someone to take a look ASAP. The fault won't fix itself, and will only get more expensive as it over-stresses other parts like springs, dampers, wheel bearings, tyres and it can result in unsafe handling and braking instability.

I think that my 1998 Cadillac air suspension system is going bad

I had a problem with my '98 Deville. I had a lot of issues with the air shocks and all the other electronic stuff that goes with that. I called the dealer, and they wanted $3500 to fix it!!! I found www.Strutmasters.com and they converted my car to a "passive" suspension, which bypassed that whole computer thing. Now I have a lifetime warranty, and I am VERY satisfied with the ride. The best part is that it only cost $800 and I got all new suspension! I highly recommend them for your vehicle!

Tune up

At each 100,000 mile interval u need to replace the spark plug, at 30,000 the air filter and fuel filter, check the cooling system hoses and coolant every 60,000 miles, check the drive belt every 30,000, replace after 60,000. These are routine suggested maint items.

And don't forget to keep the pressure correct in the tires, under-inflated tires kill fuel mileage.

1999 Eldorado rear air suspension inflated to max

Converting from the air ride suspension to the passive coil spring suspension will eliminate this problem. To fix your air system you will have to purchase the parts directly from the dealer which means the prices will be severely inflated. Check out Strutmasters website at: http://www.strutmasters.com/Cadillac-Eldorado-Air-Suspension-Rear-Conversion-R-p/-cad-r5ns-el.htm My Uncle converted his Cadillac Deville two years and has only had positive things to say about the effects! I hope this advice was of some help.
