I hope you are using nothing but SYNTHETIC oil.The turbo is intercooled by oil.If the turbo is gone,it will **** oil into the intake system and burn it.

Would a blown gasket on the turbo of my Volvo S40 T4 1998 be responsible for a total loss of power and white smoke? Where is the turbo located??

WHITE SMOKE SOUNDS BAD COULD POSSIBLE BE A HEAD GASKET FAILURE, GET A COMBUSTION GAS TESTER AT AUTOZONE, CHECK FOR COMBUSTION GASSES IN THE COOLING SYSTEM.

1999 volvo s70 rich black smoke runs bad

Black smoke indicates a rich or too much fuel condition. First thing to check is the fuel pressure regulator on the injector fuel rail. Pluu the vacuum hose off and look for signs of fuel in the vacuum hose. They will rupture the diaphragm and suck fuel in to the intake. Can also be caused by a faulty 02 sensor, bad MAF sensor or bad coolant temp sensor. If the check engine light is on check codes and post the codes.

I had just bought a Volvo and when it is held at 3 and a half rpm's it was smoking and smelled like burning oil. I have put about 900 miles on it and I know longer smell burning oil and very little...

a quart per 150 miles is NOT normal, the engine may be bad, have a Volvo Specialist check it over. The cat converter will clean up most any oil smoke.

Car is smoking very badly. All of the sudden.

If the smoke is white is burning coolant, and might be a bad cylinder head gasket. If smoke is blue, is burning oil. This might be valve guide or something else. If the smoke is coming from engine compartment, fluids might spill over exhaust manifold. Hope this will help to narrow the problem.

My 99 volvo xc is blowing thick white, bluish

This is not good. White smoke is usually coolant, but the deposits on the plugs indicates oil related issue. Major exploritory surgery is in your future.

Start with a leak down test, and based on the results of that, your next step will be more clear.

Sorry for the bad news, but you already knew that, with the smoke report.

2001 Volvo s40 oil leaking in turbo, smokes white smoke and turbo not kicking in. I have a new head, timing belt waterpump, oxygen sens. valve job, cam pulley all changed. It is still smoking and no turbo....

Water in combustion chamber makes white smoke--suspect that the head gasket is leaking water into the chamber. If oil leaking around turbo, it may have a bad bearing and bad oil seal. Check waste gate valve and control.

Oil in the turbo, smoking bad!

check to make sure the turbo oil return pipe is not clogged. if it is pressure will build up causing oil leak through seal causing it to smoke.
