Most likely a failed "IAC"; Idle AIr Control valve; located on the side of the throttle body.

I think you have the problem after you disconnect the battery. It is the ECU reseting, it will be ok after few days. If it doesn't come back to normal, try cleaning the Throttle Plate, it work like magic for me.

You can try spraying carb cleaner into the throtle body to clean it with a tooth brush while letting some of the stuff go into the iac hole. If the car now idles then your iac was stuck and the usual fix is another one. This unsticking can sometimes last for a while. A tech can also clean this iac but the labor is not cheap. actually longer than a new 1
