Thanks for this information, wasnt to sure if this model was a self adjusting type or if they could be adjusted. Missed out on a warrant due to there being 50% deffernce in breaking between the left and right rear wheel.

To adjust the brakes --- at the bottom of the drum housing ( twords the inside of the car ) there should be a little oblong rubber cover. pop that cover off and you will see a gear looking wheel adjuster,, using a flathead screw driver rotate the wheel -- in one direction it will advance the shoes and in the other direction it will decrease the shoes. make sure the parking brake is off while you make the adjustment -- also make sure the side you are working on is jacked up off the ground so you can spin the wheel / hub to get the brake shoes in the right position. you should not hear any rubbing of the brakes as the drum spins. -- I find it best to turn the gear adjuster just to the point where the shoes start to grab,, then back off a couple clicks --- repeat on the other side and you should be good to go. hope this helps --

How do i replace my hand brake cable on my ford falcon XH ute

wait a bit ....is it rear disc or rear drums on that ute

will assume its under dash hand brake pull lever tyoe

the disc setup may have single cables for each rear
rear disk brake cable is approx $ 150

if your XH it is close to the XE and XF set up drums
a complete one line loop cable outer and inner
with plastic grommets along the back chassis rail ( they break )
so the one inner cable works both rear handbrake shoes

hand brake cable is a shorty

undo the adjustment thread
just below the hand brake cable point up somewhere above the gearbox
(drums )
after new cable fitted
drums are adjusted with the old school way with the handbrake adjuster tool
handbrake cable adjusted

then the handbrake handle when pulled out to hold needs14 plus clicks
comes out a long way for some weird reason
on drums
if cable adjustment is done wrong onrear drums the handbrake cable will come loose in the drum as you drive along

Replace rear drums 1990 ford ranger

Remove rear wheels and then remove rear drums. You might have to pound on the drums with a hammer to break them loose fromthe axle shaft. Pound in between the lug nuts to loosen the drums. Inspect brake lining for wear, replace as necessary and then install new drums.

How do I adjust emergency brake on 1990 ford f 350 dually

Under the cab on the drivers side about even with the door hinge the cable splits for the two different sides, right in this junction is an adjustment rod in the cdables connecter. If all things are the same and the brake is'nt tight enought to hold the truck don't adjustr any hting till you check the rear brakes as your describing the brake shoes worn out and even groung into the drums. The cables only need to be adjusted as the cables are removed or changed and once adjusted are good to go. The rear break shoes can be OK but thier adjustment to be as close to the break drums as possible with the shoes adjusters. You can get into the back of the drum though the adjustment hole but some don't have the hole and the drum will need to be removed. If you have this problem the brakes need to be looked at anyway and worn parts changed to new as failure altogether cvan cause a crash.

How to adjust rear drum breaks on ford f250

First check the brake shoes for thickness, if good, you can use a gauge for adjusting, if not avaiable, set the drum in place and behind the plate there is a small hole with a screw driver or a brake adjunting blade turn the inside ajuster and turn the drum, is better to do it with the tire on.

Cannot remove rear brake drums

You need to back off the adjusters on the rear shoes to allow the worn drum to pass over the brake shoes.
A worn drum will have a unworn drum section on its outer edge where the brake shoes don't normally rub.
This must unworn ring must be able to pass over the brake shoes before you can get the drum off.

Two tools should be used through the brake adjuster access hole.
One small diameter blade screwdriver can be used to push the self adjuster lever away from the notched adjuster nut, while a second flat bladed tool is used to lever the adjuster nut, rotating it so as to back off brake shoe expander adjustment.
