Question about 1996 Chevrolet K1500

1996 Chevy 1500 4x4 with a 4l60e has all gears in 4 low but only 1 and 2 in 4x2 and. 4x4 .will shift to 3and 4 if Rev to 4000 rpm. Also when in 4th gear at 40 MPH. Rpm is 4000-4300 what can cause this. Has a new transmission. New speed sensor tpsensor ect

To me it sounds like the trans computer the trans computer is built into the main computer for the engine i would try that the local junk yard should have one

Sounds like a tooth missing of the fourth gear, check trans sump for metal filings or pieces. if auto, adjust bands and check/change fluid and filters. as well.

1987 escort doesnt shift untill 3000 rpm


Depending on what gearing setup the car was originally put on, most cars that I have owned that were automatic shifted between 3000 and 4000 RPM. My 97 Ford Escort ZX2 needed to shift around 2000 RPm from 1st into 2nd, but it was a manula which allows you to feel the point of shift alot better. maybe have your onboard computer checked and tranny serviced.

I just purchased it today. The RPM's goes up to 4


You'll want to doublecheck & make sure the Overdrive is turned on. That's a high rpm for 55, even high I believe for Interstate cruising at 65-70.

Possibly get back to the dealer immediately if it's not the Overdrive switch.

There are issues with some models that concern the RPM staying around 4,000 even at idle & under the right circumstances, a transmission won't shift as it should based upon engine & driving signals that the Trans computer uses to determine when to shift.

Check your fluid first & remember, Overdrive doesn't work until the fluid reaches a certain temperature.

1996 gmc suburban transmission shift problem


96 gm trucks had a proble with third gear burning out because of a ground issue from pcm..there was a bulletin for adding a new ground for third gear control circuit...aftermarket trans shops do not remember this problem and it is often overlooked..take to local dealership and you should be able to get problem resolved

1999 Lincoln Continental 4.6 32v engine...idles smooth in park & in gear. In park I get a engine miss when revved to 4000rpm. Also seem/feels like I have a miss at lower engine speed when being driven....


hello, i first must ask why that engine would EVER be reved to 4000 RPM? it is likely you are up against the rev-limiter and your ignition is made not to over rev. be very careful....4000 RPM on that engine could/will severly damage your tourque convertor........very expensive it is common for the EGR passages on that model to plug up with carbon, remove valve, clean ports, and retest for low speed miss/hesitation, good luck....marty

IT COULD BE SOLENOID PACK OR THE GOVERNOR AND TRANSDUCER OR LOW FLUID OR THE MOST COMMON REPAIR SPEEDS SENSORS INPUT/OUTPUT. ALL OF THESE CONTROLS THE SHIFTING. START WITH THE SENSORS FIRST, VERY COMMON.
