Suggest you lube the locking switch under the hood with wd40.also lube the pull handle under the dash with wd40. sometimes it may take 2 people to do this. lube the locking mechanism under hood first. then pull the release handle and spray the wd40 on the rod behind the lever to insure that it gets lubricant to cable. some times you may need to adjust the spring under hood also, simply spray it with wd40 and push upward on the round spring thats attached to the hood, work it upwards with minimal force. continue to spray it while you push it upwards, this will loosen the spring, which will let it do what it's supposed to do when you pull the release inside for hood to pop up. hope this helps, and thank you for choosing fixya.com

you may have to adjust the latching mechanism, where the hood latches inti locking mechanism there will be two bolts one on each side of latch to adjust the locking latch loosen the two bolts on locking mechanism, adjust it 1/4 inch downwards for tighter fit, move it upwards for loose fit, look for gap in hood when it closes for correct adjustment. the wd40 only loosens the locking assembly. to adjust the lock you need to adjust the lock where the hood locks into. it may take several trys, but go with the best fit! you have a safety latch where hood will not fly up during driving, but always pull up on hood manually after each adjustment. may only be 10 mm bolts to loosen to get correct fit,ok? want you to get the right adjustment, that makes you feel and look comfortable.. thank you for choosing fixya.co,

99 toyota corrolla hood latch is broken. Can't

There is a rachet right below the hood that you can reach from radiator grill.
Take a long thin screw driver, reach it and turn that rachet.
You will hear the "click" sound and the hood will pop open.

can you reach the cable itself?,or is it broke at the hood latch?IF its not broken at the outside latch, try to follow the cable,un-hook it from the handle and pull on the wire cable to open it.IF its broken at the latch itself, you are going to have to reach the latch through the grille and try to pull the lever the cable connects to.That part is no fun at all..!!

Bypassing hood cable override system to get under my hood

Also helps to clean and oil the latching mechanism. On my Blazer (01) you'd pull the handle by the brake all the way back, hear a slight click up under the hood and nothing happened. Pound on the hood above the latch a few times and it'd pop open. I cleaned and oiled it... works fine now
