You need to have your engine tuned up, unless it's been done recently. misfire means it's not getting fire or fuel to #7 plug. you may have a plug wire bad or a bad spark plug on #7 if you go to effort of sending it to garage just to replace one plug or wire, you'll pay labor for whole tune up. wires, plugs, and maybe a bad coil pack. suggest you have tuned up with new plugs and wires. also while they are there, have them check fire to #7 plug on coil first before you do a complete tune up. thank you for choosing fixya.com

PO440

http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442
P0440 indicates the failure of the EVAP system to develop proper vacuum. If you got
and replaced a proper good quality gas cap, you have corrected the most common cause.
However, in fully searching the causes of this code (http://engine-codes.com/p0440_chevrolet.html ) (pardon the generic GM info, but will apply for you)-----you will find there are 5 other causes of the vacuum failure, which are independent of the gas cap. Your good local mechanic can sort those out; I would save your gas cap
receipt if you were advised to buy one not needed. As you probably know, your
State emission test facility checks your gas cap----so that is another way to find that specific portion of this answer,
(for their fee).
P0300 is a generic misfire code. For this, a specific Cadillac forum may be most
helpful = 2001 Deville intermittent service engine soon light code P0300
co-logo-100x100.png 2001 Deville intermittent service engine soon light code... I recently bought this car from an owner who took decent care of it but a week after i bought it, the service engine light appeared. After a few View on www.cadillacforums... Preview by Yahoo You will see that this generic code is perhaps more serious, costly, and harder
to track down than the P0440. You will also discover that P0301 is cylinder 1 misfire, P0302 is cylinder 2, and etc, etc. If you get a good diagnostic, they will generally
be able to localize the problem fairly specifically---and get a more specific fix. The person who reported this code was unhappy because he was given several ($$) fixes,
before he got one that erased the code, and was a solution. (Be forewarned ----A generic misfire can have umpteen issues--or one! !; use your own local preferred method for solving this with a mechanic who gives you good service, and stands behind what they do.)

Symptoms camshaft sensors

your 98 buick is equipped with an obd2 diagnostic system, a faulty cam sensor will throw a trouble code causing a check engine or service engine soon light. however cylinder misfire or poor signal to coil pack/packs would be a symptom if for some reason the obd2 or ecm was faulty and not throwing a code

Have 2005 lincoln aviator - has miss at 30-55 MPH - no codes replaced all coils ( ford) & spark plugs (twice) - repair vacuum leak at PCV Still misses -- no codes -- help

The COPS (coils) may have shorted the drivers in the PCM (computer). You should get a misfire code for each cylinder misfiring though.

Slim possibility, but very expensive unless you have a service contract.

CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE...

I have a nissan pathfinder 2001 and my problem is that the "service engine soon"appears in the panel board 7 months ago and its steady while my engine runs normally, but now my engine is vibrating while i'm...

I've had this issue and had the engine codes checked. It was a coil wire in one of the cylinders (nissan has ignition coils instead of the old plug wires) and this will fix the misfire if in fact that is what it is. To tell if you are misfiring, does the car idle smoothly? Does it misfire and kind of shake while driving where only pushing the gas peddel takes the problem away? Does the car feel like it may stall? Have it checked as if you don't and it continues it could burn out the catalytic converters and those are expensive on the nissan as there are multiples.
