SOURCE: Locked keys in toyota 4 runner. have slim jim

A typical slim jim wont do the trick for you.

You need special tools to do the trick. Most tow truck drivers have them.

The keys to my 2005 Nissan Maxima are locked inside . How can I get them out without paying 45.00 to a lock service??

1. You can try coat hanger but that might damage upholstery and possible lock but I have done it though and it has worked. What year is the car?

2. You can order locksmith kit with a slim jim at

3. You can call AAA ( and become a member and it is cheaper and you can use it for other things.

4. You can call a locksmith and then neogitate prior to them coming for a smaller rate but expect to pay 35-45 dollars.

Locked out of car

buy a slim Jim at a car parts store or try a hanger through the top of door seam you can use a screwdriver and rag to keep from damageing the paint have one person GENTLY pry door apart just enough to get hanger in and the other attempt to engage the auto lock/unlock button. it can work just be very patient and careful. i had a actual lock smith do that but with a air bag system thing although he wasnt all that careful and bent my door a bit which i latter bent back. he charged me like $50.00 or so. a rip off i own a slim Jim now....

Keys are locked in car and dont want to pay for aaa. I have slim jim how do I unlock door with it?

A lot of newer cars can't be opened with a slim jim anymore. A good kit uses a small bag that inflates with air to allow a long rod to unlock (electric door locks) These work much better.

Locked my keys in how do i get them out

Your best bet shy of going to get any other available key is to call "Pop-a-Lock" or something like that. I say that as the damage that can be caused by springing the door trying to get in can be much more expensive. Not to mention the frustration.

Second is to find a friend with a "slim jim" (this is a thin flat piece of metal with cuts made in it so that it can be slid down into the door & hook onto the door linkage & pop the lock by pulling up once hooking it) but even that can damage the linkage or connectors within the door.

But, if you must try yourself, (I have-see needless note below) you may be able to unlock the doors. I've used a coathanger, bent it so that when I stuck it through the edge of the door near the top of the window by prying out cautiously, I was able to get the wire to pry the lock to the Unlock position & open the door. I had to get lucky & it took several attempts to get the hanger bent to where it would "grab". I used flat tip screwdrivers for my wedges.

I also cracked my windshield on that car first as I tried to use the stainless antenna mast which popped off of the lock switch & cracked the windshield-use caution. I then went & got my coathanger.

If that doesn't work, the coathanger can be used as a "slim jim type device, slid between the glass and the weather strip (rubber) with a "J" bend so that you can hopefully grab the bar (similar to the slim jim) that goes to the lock & pull enough on it to use the flex in it to open the lock.

In either instance, it will help if you use something to wedge between the area where you are to insert the hanger. I doubled the hanger when I made the "J" hook for extra strength, the J is small at the end to catch, that's all. There is a bar that runs between the lock switch to the lock on the door & that's what you're trying to hook. You can also try & hook a manual window knob & work it to open the window slowly.

Good luck

I locked my key in car. I do not have a spare key. How can I get in Thanks

your going to have to use a coat hanger, use somthing to wedge the door open a little then snake hanger in to try and hit power lock button or push the unlock lever, you will have to bend hanger to right angle. or you could call AAA they will send someone but it would cost you if you dont have AAA, good luck hope this helps.
