Bora ,1.4 petrol, AXP, no signs of burning oil and no drips underneath, yet needs regular topping up, half lt /250 mls. On one occasion it spewed out 4 lts while the car was running. the oil was replaced and the engine is still running sweetly.the air filter has oil on it plus the underneath of the car. Any ideas on WUD.

All 4 plugs have a fine grey deposit on the electrode tips but trere is a little soot at the base of the electrodes. see attached photo.

while driving the car the red oil light came on,pulled into parking spot after two minutes. left car parked for an hour to cool, only a few drops of oil under car, it emptied while driving, topped up with 3Lts of up with half litre every 250 miles.
Compression appears fine, but will check it later.

cant tell yet, theres a lot of it about, on a lot of the hoses and sprayed all over the bottom of the engine. Some came up the breather hose to the air filter. I need to wash it all down to try and find the source of the leak. Is there an overpressure blow off valve or similar fitted to this model? what is the sensor fitted on the sump?

Have a 4.3l 6 cylinder g20 i accidentally put diesel oil into. from what i read its no real harm just might want to change before winter, im about 1 qt low, can i top off with regular oil? Any harm?

If you mean that you put Diesel in the crankcase it depends on how much and it will separate in the oil pan when it stands which means that the first lube that gets sent around the motor will be diesel which is a poor lube
change it as soon as possible as your motor will be prone to enhanced wear and failure

My Ford bantam 2003 model was done an engine overhaul recently its now driving a bit better than before on the power factor. The problem is that it is having some awkward raves & oil drips underneath

that is indicators or a badly installed rear main seal
the oil is coming out past that seal
as the system requires a complete sealed sump to run properly that would also account for poor performance
check that the PCV valve has been installed correctly and not blocked as that will cause pressure in the sump which will also cause oil leaks at the rear main seal

Blue smoke after being driven for awhile

if you can then smell the smoke. if it smells of petrol you will need a tune on your car ( getting too much petrol ). if it has no smell or very faint then it could be your head gasket. (water getting to the head causing steam ) worst case would be piston rings expanding through heat and letting oil through ( smell of oil burning ) check oil filler cap and dip stick for white gunk/check exhaust for water dripping out. these are head gasket signs

Wipers stopped working, car screeching, oil issues

the smell could be oil leaking on to the exhaust from the rocker covers.(common problem in Subaru because of the side mounted pistons. Engine stop oil leak might fix other wise will have to get tappet cover seals replaced as they crack over time from the heat) easy enough fix. a tell tale sign is signs of engine oil stains or signs of oil dripping on to the exhaust(can locate by looking under the front of the car at the bottom of the engine itself) and this is probably the cause of the engine knock due to low will continue to leak till the problem is fixed

2006 vw passat. screen says stop! warning low oil. engine off ? what does that mean? Also servive engine now! I just bought the car yesterday and it has no owners manual. I did notice what looked like...

First, check your engine oil level , while on level ground, add if it's low. (The oil viscosity should be labeled on the oil filler cap) Blue smoke is a sign of burning oil, not a good sign. White smoke is a sign of coolant mixing with your engine oil, a worse sign.
Your computer is telling you to check your oil, so do it, or get it done.
If your oil is low, top it off and keep checking it regularly to see if your engine is consuming it. If it is, I would recommend getting it looked at for either a leak, or low compression. (Worn out piston rings will cause oil consumption and poor performance.)

Oil consumptiom

Figuring off of national standards thata gasoline engine is allowed to burn 1qt. of oil every 2,000 miles tthey would be correct. But That is not to say for that particular engine providing that oil has been changed every 3000 miles,There could be other problems contributing to your car,for instance cklogged pcv valve, leaking injectors or fuel preasure regulator both can cause fuel contamination to engine oil (Dillution) Thins oil too much,or overheat condition,or failed cat convertor. With this in mind talk with another Nissan dealer if only by Phone.
