Question about 2000 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Isuzu rodeo with the '99/9- engine, when i start it it stalls immediately. When I disconnect the MAF which I just replaced, it runs a little rough but can stay running for a while. I also just changed the spark plugs and when I reconnect the mass airflow sensor it dies when it start. When I keep the maf sensor off and start it again it run rough and miss fire a few times and run a little rough and settle down around 8-9 hundred rpm while still running a little rough. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Jstill

Hello i can assist you the best way to resolve your vehicle malfunction would be to have a OBD2 scan completed to retrieve the faults and codes and repair. However to try and guess what the fault and malfunctioning parts would be very expensive and costly.Garages usually charge $25.00 up to $100.00 dollars for this type of service it was a pleasure in assisting you.John

it's the EGR valve and can be fixed by anyone. It involves disconnecting the battery, remove electrical connection, and removing 2 screws and cleaning the surface area well and replacing it as well as the gasket. A new EGR valve runs around $120 and trust me you can fix this and save hundreds!

I have seen alot of problems with the MAF (mass airflow meter) on these engines . Also make sure you do not have any cracks in the hose between the MAF and the engine and that all the hoses are connected. It will not run right with any air leaks between the MAF and engine. If there is not any cracks or hoses disconnected then you probably need a MAF. Try cleaning it first with some MAF cleaner spray. You can purchase it at any parts store.

i had the same problem a few months ago. check your fuel filter. mine was on the car for some time and after replaceing it, car runs great. hope this helps. i would also check your air cleaner. if to dirty will run rich and with a dirty fuel filter your car will stall.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
