likely a blown head gasket or intake gasket. Steam from tailpipe = head gasket.

The 3.1L engine used in your car is known to have intake manifold gasket issues. The design of this engine will allow water to mix with the oil. The head gasket(s) might have failed too. I would lead towards the intake gasket first if it was me.

These are symptoms of the following
1-Blown Head Gasket
2-Cracked head
3-Cracked cylinder wall

it could be one or all three.
This is serious business, and should not be driven untill you know for sure.
Water in the oil will damage engine bearings if allowed to leak into the crankcase

Car ran hot wont start unless pushed started

how long did you run it hot, chances are if you run it hot too long more than 10 or 20 minutes you are going to end up with a blown head gasket. Most cars usually restart after cooling off for 30 minute to an hour or by lett it cool off and topping it off with more antifreeze or even plain water if you continue to drive it without water for any length of time you are going to have a major head job ahead of you. If you run it to the point where you warp the head it will cost major $$ the way you tell this is check the radiator when it is cool and see if it looks like oil is mixed in with the coolant (usually looks like chocolate pudding ) or check the oil fill if there is thick chocolate mud like film on the filler cap chances are you have a blown head gasket and a warped head. time for an overhaul, can cause more internal problems as well water mixed with oil causes many mechanical problems. never ever run a car hot for any length of time pull over and sit until cool and top off with water if nothing else.. or have it towed.. not worth the major cost to repair when you blow a head gasket or warp a head. past experience 20+ yrs and working on automobile repairs.

My 1986 mercedes 300e runs hot i replaced the thermastat

Hi,first of all worm the car up to running tempriture, put your hand on the water pipe that is coming from the fermastate is it hot if so try the one at the bottom of the radiater to see if that is hot if that is hot then the radiater is fine, nexst turn engine off, then undo the oil cap to see if your oil has a musterd colour for oil if oil is ok,then you will have to do a compresion test to see if there is one of your cylinders has low compresion.
some times you can have a broken head gasket which can couse uneven running due to water going into the cylinder.
I hope its not bad and a easy fix this is just to give you food for thought, best of luck.

'98 dodge neon 2.0 dohc runs hot,new head gasket, radiator cap,no leaks or water in oil,new temp sensor, could bad intake gasket cause this?

Hi, Check the right amount of water it's holding if it is not as much as should be then what will clean all out is water mixed with caustic soda. Take great care use gloves ensure you don't go onto anything except inside your radiator & engine heater etc ONLY! run the engine so water gets hot when its run hot for ten minutes approx, drain this out REMEMBER THIS IS ACID. So take GREAT CARE. Clean your drains at home out for instance, This should have cleaned any blockage rust etc. After draining let cool a little 10 minuets then start engine & start to refill with antifreeze/water mixture by running the engine with your heater turned on to hot as well this should ensure no air locks & now the problem should be solved. I have a 2003 lincoln ls it keeps running hot I replaced thermostat, radiator cap, water pump, and had lines drained. After replacing water pump and thermostat car ran fine for a month I went and got an ol...

Suspect you have a loose clamp on a radiator hose or the oil change guy made something leak. There is a tool which is similar to a a bicycle pump in that it pressurizes the water system and your engine does not have to run or be hot to test. Some major auto parts stores may have a loaner.

Its going to stay hot and lose pressure until you fix the leak.

My truck is running hot i changed out the water pump an thiermastat an put a new radatior in it

How hot is it running? Does the temp gauge go all the way to or past 'H'? When it gets hot does it boil over either into the overflow or on the ground?
  1. Check for water in your engine oil by looking at the color of the oil on your dipstick. If it is white or creamy looking you may have a blown head gasket.
  2. Check for oil in the water by removing your radiator cap (when the engine is cool) and see if there is a noticeable amount of oil in the water.

Run s hot.changed thermastat.still runs hot no water inn oil don't nknow where water is going

No water in the oil? How about oil in the water? When you fill up the radiator, is there a scum floating on the top? Look for steam coming out the exhaust when the engine is warm. A radiator shop can do a comp check and tell you real fast what is wrong. It sounds like a head gasket, Keep an eye on the temp gauge. One more thing is the engine could have air trapped in there, and it needs to be vented out, all cars are different, some have vents, some don't, some don't do it. Some need to be elevated to be filled, etc, check it out. Hope this helps.
