When I am going down the road my truck will shift right out of drive just like someone shoved it into neutral. Then I have to pull over shut the truck completely off and then back on and it is fine for a couple miles then I have to stop and do the same thing over again.

I have the same thing going on at about 50mph only if I gun it fast. If I go slow it will not do it. What is the cause of this? Any help would be great! geoff@bicpipe.com

I have a 01 cummings with a auto and do to the icy road's in the far northwest corner of Montana I pretty much have to drive in 4 hi all the time until it thaws enough to get the roads bare again. anyhow it worked fine to pick up my wife and all the way home the next morning I went to take my daughter to school and it would'nt shift out of first until about 22 or 2300 r.p.m. even then I would have to feather the throtle to get it to shift up then when I stopped it would'nt down shift again it acted like it was stuck in in 3rd. and really hard to get going. oil is good and just change it and filter new and full. any idea's out there ?

I have a 2001 2500 Diesel and it will not down shift into 1st gear. I can go to park and shift into 1st gear. It does not do this all the time. The truck has 65000 miles and has been doing this for the last three years. I pull a 35 ft 5th wheel so I need the low gear at red lights.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram that doesn't like to shift into 2nd when flooring it from a Stop. Imagine if you were to floor the gas in neutral, the engine REDLINEs and the engine governor kicks in to keep the RPM from blowing the engine......while stuck in first Gear. If i let off the gas, it goes into 2nd fine. I have replaced the Speed Sensor on the transmission ($18) and it seemed to fix it for one day. After 200 miles, its doing it again. ANybody have legitimate answers in here? Its only got 60K miles..wtf?

Have any of you guys ever had a problem with your 2002 Dodge 2500 diesel truck while driving in overdrive around 40-50 mph when the torque coverter locks in it wants to kick in and out of lock up. It has to be a electrical ground or something, I put a lockup switch in so I can lock it manually to get it to quit. Any fix for this? Tranny was just o/h but it did this before I o/h it.
Thx

I have a 2001 dodge 3500. I had the same problems shifting as most of your posts indicate. My problem and solution was my trans solenoid. Havent had a problem since. If I remember right it was around $ 400.00 to have it replaced at my local dealership. Good luck

I had the same problem, about 6 months ago. My problem was that the Output speed sensor went bad, you might want to replace this.

you want the simple answer....its a Dodge, i drive one to, but its true....

complex answer has much more to do with the size of the holes within the transmission where the fluid flows, the clogg up easily with the older fluid, and the seals and bands cant handle it

things you can try

cheapest: fluid and filter, and throw in a bottle of lucas oil for transmissions, this will settle this down some and the lucas oil help for smoother shift

more expensive: fluid flush at a shop, this will do the same thing as a fluid change, but it changes all of the fluid, where as a regualar fluid change only gets about 3/4 new

most expensive, get a rebuid, ultimatly you will have to replace this transmission in the future, you can try the other swteps first and they may help for a while but once a transmission starts going downhill you can slow it down but you cant stop it.

PICKUP DOWN SHIFTS WHEN ACCELERATED

Attach a diagnostic computer to the leads on your engine.
Check the codes to confirm that the onboard computer is choosing to shift under the correct conditions.

Or, get your local Dodge dealer (before they go bankrupt) to run the computer-diagnosis.
