Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 liter. The engine will turn over and will run if I spray fuel into the intake. When I first turn the ingintion on I can hear a buzzing noise inside the fuel take for about 3 seconds, which I assume means that the fuel pump picks up. I pulled the supply side off the filter and get no fuel. I believe I have a fuel pump problem but don't have a pressure gage to check pressure on the fuel rack. Before removing the tank and spending 200.00 on new pump is there anything I should try first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have disconnected the fuel filter (inlet) side and turned on the ignition, if fuel is not coming out of this line, then there is a fuel pump problem. This is assuming that you can hear the fuel pump actually running. Usually when the fuel pump runs and you can hear it, then there can be a screen on the pump plugged or the pump its self is not working. Hope this helps.

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. it began to stall at idle and now will not start

Check audibly the fuel pump. It will run for 3 seconds when ignition is turned on, but engine not started. If it makes noise, you could check for pressue at the fuel rail. There is normally a schrader valve you can press. Tske care, fuel under pressure will come out when pump is ok.
if ok, check for eventual fault codes with scanner.
could be crank sensor.

sounds like a fuel supply problem-change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through it-it also could be a bad fuel pump-Denny

I have a 99 jeep cherokee laredo 4.0 and it is stalling before excelerating. The engine is still running and the rpms go up but no faster for 3 or 4 seconds and then it takes off. Happens during the drive...

Change fuel filter, check air filter, clear air intake manifold with spray solution you can get from auto supply store. If that doesn't help have fuel pressure checked
