Question about Ford Focus

1 Answer

Our ford focus zts standard - its gear lever cables kept coming off while we are driving and is very dangerous as we would have a floppy shifter and be stuck in what ever gear we had been driving in. we realized that it keeps popping off and the ends need to be replaced. as ford told us once they are removed they are supposed to be replaced new. we had our car serviced over night for our clutch and found later many problems. we later found that this business has a reputation for replacing car parts with other parts... how do we remove the ends of the cables to get the cables out as the space is very tiny for two cables to go through let alone 1 cable with the plastic end still attached.

Replace the whole cable assembly as it is probably stretched which is what caused your problem to begin with. Get the Haynes or Chilton's manual on your vehicle so you can locate the cable adjustments to stop this problem.

You can buy a manual on ebay for most Fords, only get the factoryy manual as the aftermarket ones are less than useless.

Hi i have a 2006 1.6 ford focus automatic, gear lever gets stuck. will not select from park to drive.have to put screw driver in access next to gear lever. to shift gear lever from park to drive positi

it could be that the ignition lock and/0r the brake pedal sensor that unlock (allows you to move the shifter) are/is not working correctly or has failed. You will have to check both those elements as well as the cable beneath the consul covering and the solenoid that pulls the cable.

There are three posibilities for this worn linkage on the gearbox the linkage under gear lever or a broken mounting on the bracket where the lever comes up through the floor as long as you can get all gears it will be exturnal linkage fault.

I have a 2002 ford focus zts with 43000 miles help please

If you have replaced the Throttle Position sensor and the O2 sensors you need to look at the brakes for dragging.

Since you must not show a "check engine light" you would want a diagnostic test beyond the self-diagnostics on your car. This would be BIG testing machine which will show cylinder balance, timing, and emissions. The best would be a DYNO which would put your car on a roller table and have the car running through its gears while its wheels are spinning and the mechanic is under the hood.

You will get answers and the guessing is expensive in the long run. Some dealers have them and so do real performance shops.

Have a 2000 Ford focus zts battery light keeps coming on.

This is often mistaken as an alternator or battery problem. If you also are having a problem with the engine idling a bit low (less than 600rpm) when stopped and in Drive without the a/c on, it is likely a throttle body sensor issue. Because the sensor is bad, the engine idles lower than it should and will cause the 'battery light' to come on and go off seemingly randomly.
