Question about 2004 Ford F150

Open Question

My 2004 ford f140 lariat is starting to shut off when im driving really slow and start to turn in any direction. It reads LOW OIL PRESSURE but my gauge is reading otherwise. My oil changes and maintenance are up to date. Could there be a sensor going bad thats causing my truck to read low oil pressure and shut off?

SOURCE: oil pressure gauge shows low / high / middle changed sensor did

Hello mb4494: My name is Roger and I will help you. If by changing the oil pressure sending unit the problem did not change. I would perform a oil pressure test. This is done by removing the oil pressure sensor and inserting a oil pressure gauge. This can be done by yourself or by a repair shop. This needs to be done on a cold engine. Start the engine and observe the oil pressure cold.as the engine warms up observe the pressure. The pressure will drop off as the engine warms up.Should the oil pressure drop below 10 to 12 PSI. then you have internal engine trouble. More then likely a bearing problem. Try dropping the truck into gear and see what the pressure drops off to. Again if the pressure drops below 10 to 12 PSI. you have a problem. I would also check to make sure you have the correct oil switch. a truck with a oil light uses a oil pressure switch. with a gauge you would use a oil pressure sending unit. Sorry for the long reply but want to make sure you check the pressure correctly. Please rate the quality of the answer as this is how we know the answer was correct. Thank You for using Fix Ya. The low oil pressure light will come till the vehicle starts an runs ! Explain wants to turn over but won't ? The engine spins over when you turn the key to the start position but won't start an run ? Or when you turn the key to the start position an nothing happens ? If the first one engine spins over but won't start an run , What's missing ? Spark , Fuel pressure , Compression ? Videos on youtube for cranks no start , how to trouble shoot !

I have a Ford F350 Lariat Super Duty Diesel with the 6.0 engine. wha would cause the oil pressure to drop complete when I come to a stop but run normal when going down the road?

Your oil is under pressure as it is circulated through the engine, and at low RPM there is less pressure pumping the oil around. With the broken dipstick, I presume there is an oil-pressure leak and at normal operating speed there is enough capacity to maintain proper pressure, but the leak is more than the engine can overcome at low speed. I would suggest replacing the broken dipstick.

2004 dodge stratus oil light started coming on when I slowed down or cam to a stop and then would turn off when I started driving again. Now it stays on al the time

You need to have that chk'd out. Even low oil pressure can damage the engine let alone no oil pressure. Ck your oil level. It is a serious issue to have that light on. Good Luck, _Ned_

Oil pressure on a 2004 5.3 liter silverado at idle is around 20

The pressure to be most concerned with is the reading in gear at idle with engine warmed up...Low end really should not be below 20. If pressure wanders, change the sending unit and check actual pressure with a mechanical gauge if necessary. The age and quality of your oil, as well as temperature all play a part in pressure, as well as internal wear from time & miles of use. If pressure changes with rpm, that is normal. 40psi is good while driving.
need more info just ask.

Truck will not turn over

I have found that the main cable to the starter is either broken or corroded. Replace the end and it should be fine.
