96 pontiac sunfire bogs down and dies when I apply the gas.

Ok, so i have had problems with my car bogging down when I come to a stop and sometimes it died, but it always started right back up. My new problem I can start the car in park and neutral, but as soon as u apply the gas the car boggs and dies. If you have the gas petal floored you can get it to rev to about 3 grand, but thats about it. I can not but it in drive and go anywhere as it will die. Need any assistance possible. Thanks

As far as the bogging and dieing,it sounds like the tps.a simple trottle body service would fix that.for your new problem you need to some test before pointing to a salution.start the car and cover your tail pipe.as pressure builds it push you hand off.a clogged cat will put to much back pressure on the engine.i would un plug the mass air flow sensor and try running the car.this will turn on the check engine light.check your air filtter and plugs.also check your wires.a nother test is a coil strees test.(you have to go to a shop for this)if the car runs ok with no load but spitts and sputters in drive you may have a openning coil.checking with a meter only works if it does not run.last but not least while you at the shop, have them check your timing.a faulty cam sencer will bog the car down with bad timing advancement but not throw a code.
hope this helps, remember to keep it simple, expensive elec. parts are not always the problem

"I have a 1996 pontiac sunfire that will start up idle rough then dies. If I hit the gas pedal it wants to bog down. What can the problem be"

Check for trouble codes, check the fuel pressure. Autozone and others will scan for trouble codes for free, they also rent or loan fuel pressure gauge testers.

My 99 pontiac sunfire check engine light came on as I give it gas its really bogging stalling ?

You need to check engine codes to determine which circuit is giving you the problem. Have a visual inspection under the hood to make sure no hoses etc are disconnected

Code po172(loss of power) on 2002 pontiac sunfirer

Possible causes
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
My bet would be dirty fuel injectors, Try putting fuel injector cleaner in your tank next time you fill up.

Engine stutters or stalls after a complete stop upon engaging to go forward

You'll need to have someone scan the computer for the codes.
Most auto parts stores will scan for free in hopes of selling you some parts. Once you get the codes you can research them online or in this question.

Car bogs down when given gas.

Hi there,
This problem is most commonly caused by a weak fuel pump. It will need to be checked with a fuel pressure guage. If you can obtain a fuel pressure guage you will need to observe the fuel pressure while accellerating to see if it drops out.
good luck

Engine not idling and bogging

I would surely say it is a fuel issue. Do you have a CEL? For the price and piece of mind, I would replace the fuel filter. After you remove the fuel filter, blow through the side that was going to the engine (against the directional arrow on the filter) Blow the fuel and any dirt/sludge onto a clean paper towel. You may be suprised in the amount of debris in the filter. If this is not the fix then we will continue to diagonis. If you don't want to go through the trouble of chaning the $10.00 part, you could rent/buy/borrow a fuel pressure tester. THe schrader valve is located on the passenger side of the fuel rail.
