Question about 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

Had a problem with the van failing to start and guages that wouldn't work. Had a computer replaced per the mechanic. After the repair, the radio doesn't work. The mechanic states that radio has died. My husband removed the radio and tested it in his dodge truck, works fine. Checked the fuses, seem ok. What might be the problem?

The instrument cluster. Also, under the hood in the fuse relay center, all the way back towards the windshield, there's a 10 amp micro fuse marked "mem" That is for the radio. Back to the cluster, the plugs on the back go bad and causes multiple problems. If it's not making contact correctly, it can't send the proper signals. There is a way to test it...however, I'm growing weary of recommending it. When it is tried, it does work. If you care to review it, just look under my past solutions. I've addressed it many many times. If I've helped, please rate my answer and leave a testimonial. Thanks.

Starting problem (see details), on 1998 Town & Country.

Check your battery cables and starter cables especially the connectors and bolts under the hood. The bolts and connections could be loose or corroded. Check the connections near the battery and on the battery since many times mechanics mess with these the most. My guess is something is loose if it starts well most times, but fails occasionally. Did you look for blinky codes or DTCs? A '47' (or P0562) could mean a bad battery or alternator, and a '12' (or P1684) could indicate intermittent connections. Do the dome lights dim or stay well lit when the clicking is heard during cranking? If so, then the issue is most likely near the battery and if not then the issue is more likely near the starter. Good luck. There are a lot of wires under the hood.

Have a ford E-450 Van With 6.8L V10 When the Ignition switch is in the run position the fuel pump runs and radio comes on but no dash warning lights or guages move, when you continue towards start the dash...

they always come on when you turn the egnitiion switch then go out once you have started the vehicle and its normal for the fuel pump to come on infact thats one way mechanics can tell if the electric fuel pump is working or not i`m not seeing any problem here that all sounds normal.

MY 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, 3.3 started out by stalling. we took it for diagnostic, mechanic said catalytic convertor bad. changed that and coil. changed map sensor, both O2 sensors. took it to another...

does the van stall going down the road or at idle? the won't change gears at 4000 rpm and the no start condition unless disconnect the negative cable sounds more like a computer problem. when the cable is diconnected the ECM and the TCM have to go thru a relearn process which can be some of your issues. have your mechanic do a quick learn on the trans module to see if it helps the shifting problem. the ECM on the other hand can throw out codes that can make you chase your tail and end up replacing every sensor and still have the smae problem. you may want to check for corrosion at the ECM connections.

Brakes fail when engine started, then work after 3 minutes or so

1st , get a new mechanic.
2nd , check level of brake fluid. if it gets too low , light will come on
3rd Play with your E-Brake ( parking brake ) , Switch may be sticking.

I assume your brakes are working ! ?

Lumina van 1995 won't start

IS THIS A 3.8 BUICK ENGINE? I HOPE HE HAS THE TOOL FOR LINING THE SENSOR UP PROPERLY. IT IS EASY TO DAMAGE THE SENSOR DURING THE PULLEY REPLACEMENT.
THE SENSOR CAN BE REPLACED WITHOUT THE TOOL BUT IT TAKES ALOT OF FIGITING ARROUND AND DOUBLE CHECKING THE AIR GAP WITH A FEELER GUAGE WHEN DOING IT.
