Question about 1996 Chevrolet C3500

1 Answer

Code po370 po238

1996 6.5 turbo diesel . For about the first 15 miles in the morning the engine cuts in and out as if it is a vacuum lock. Both fuel tanks are well vented and it happens with both tanks. I have two seperate lift pumps (one for each tank) they both work fine.could it be the optical sensor? it pops codes po370 and po238 but also clears itself in a short time 20 min of driving. All new filters. 'injection pump fuel metering control "A" What does the "A" mean? I replaced the PMD and mounted it on the fender.

Put a mechanical fuel gauge and long fuel hose on the bleed valve on water crossover run it in the cab and opserve pressure, should be 3 psi at idle and min 1 psi wide open trottle. on steady run fuel pressure should stay steady too, about 3-4 psi, if it fluctuates from o psi to whatever, it could be interupted power to the LP. failing OPS ??
Try above first.

what are the codes for??

DTC po238 - turbo boost censor circut high voltage, check for vacuum at the waste gate and waste gate solenoid,on rear of driver side valve cover ,if no vac at solenoid to waste gate, solenoid defective,or power interupted. If no vac at solenoid to vac pump, vac pump defectiveAlso check for slipping belt when cold.

DTC po370 -timing reference high resolution,Could be a result of above DTC po238.

check all grounds[rear pass side cyl head stud]for clean and tight or broken wire inside insulation, creating a intermittent problem. check all batt cable connections as well.

check 16 pin connector at wiring at firewall [behind fuel filter] as well for clean and tight.

Witch engine oil is suitable for a VW Jetta 4?

TWO answers read and follow the Manufacturers Specification. OR Always use ** 15-40 Diesel Rated Oil is ALL gas, natural/propane and diesel Engines! Use Purolator, then WIX, then Manufacturers Filters - NEVER Fram, "special". oil the oil lube shops filters!!! WHY? When flying planes, every 100 hours I remove the filter, cut it open, and INSPECT the filter material for particulate. My Vehicle Engines go for well over 600,000 miles - most other peoples. simply do NOT!

** I use Delo 15-40 in everything - an better one is Shell Rotunda, however too expensive and not needed! In gas engines after 500 miles, the FIRST Time ONLY - Replace the oil AND FILTER - mixed fuels and oils NEVER mix well. Then on gas engines ONLY replace the filter at the "normal" intervals and ADD not change, the oil... On Diesels, due to the extreme compression, you DO change the oil, at "normal" intervals. In gas, NOT diesel engines - you could use Pep Boys and/or Walmart's generic DIESEL GRADE oil - NOT in diesel engines, as from my experience.

AVOID gasohol - unless you like flash rust and oxidation inside your engine AND 30% less fuel mileage - NEVER use WD40 on ANY metal you want to reuse! And do NOT use BP or unknown small time gas stations - as MANY "top off their fuels" with other octanes - which LOWERS the octane - do to "covalent bonding of carbon molecules" Example: a 50/50 mix of 100 octane with 90 = closer to 80 NOT "in the middle". Check engine light came on and I have a loss of power, and an apparant loss of turbo boost. Its a 1998 Dodge 3500 turbo diesel. I just bought it and put 130 miles (two days) before this problem. Any ideas...

you nee to know if the turbo turns on from electic circiut or if it operates manuly I think you will find its turbo problems unless it has dropped an injecter

I run out of gas and and drove 3 miles and it cut off and want start back. Its not the alternater or does it have a fuel air bleed valve or a fuel swithc.

Put some gas in the tank. Only cars from the 50's have what you are looking for. If you like driving something similar to an old airplane, then VW never had a manual fuel switch although it had a a fuel vent for diesel engine to purge air from the system. Starving the engine of fuel will cause ECM to store misfire codes and light up an MIL in the dash.

Ford F250 turbo diesel cut out and died as left house this morning, cold morning. Will not start, not even a cough. Have new fuel filters, need location of the filters, anything else I should check?

if you have the 6.0 then the filters are located on top on the motor right beside your oil filter and under the drivers side on the fuel pump, check to see if you have diesel in your bowl where the fuel filter is, no diesel in there your fuel pump might be dead, check fuses to fuel pump and check relay on the passengers side kicker panel, check your owners manual

My peugeot 206 diesel keeps cutting out, now it

In my opinion cut off problem occurs if engine is not getting sufficient fuel and/or air. Clean the air filter, turbo filter and fuel filter. Check the continuity of diesel flow from filter to hdi pump. If you haven't found any problem there then the possibily the hdi pump and injectors section needs to be checked. If the car has done more than 100000 miles then clean inlet and outlet manifolds including check of turbo and EGR valve. Do everything whatever possible before you take your car to garage. If there is no luck then let your car diagnosed and check any error code recorded by ecu.

Hho no mpg increase on turbo diesel

Hi, try to hook up the hho gas hose into a vacuum line of the crank case (with t-connector) NOT directly b4 the turbo. That might help. Its not getting enough vacuum to "pull" the gas from the cell. How much hho production do you get right now? Greetings, ****

97 Gmc Savana,6.5 turbo diesel vacuum pump not rotating

If the pump is not rotating all the time then it's due for replacement. They are not supposed to stop while engine is running. 227K miles is a lot of miles for any engine component.
