Question about 1998 Chrysler Cirrus

Open Question

I have a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus with a transmission problem. While traveling at highway speed I felt a solid **** from the drivetrain but I managed to drive the 3 miles to the house. Upon entering the driveway reverse did not engage and the check engine light was on. The next morning the transmission would not engage in any gear at first but after revving at 2k rpm for some time the transmission engaged in drive. The fluid is within the marks on the stick although there is some transmission fluid visible on top of the casing on the driver side even with the drive axle. The codes are PO700, 715, and 720. The timing elt was recently changed on the car so they removed the cooler lines to take out the radiator.

But I am afraid I can't tell you want all these codes mean for your car. It was probably not related to the change in fluid that was performed. However, it is serious and should not be driven until fixed. Risk of total destruction of the transmission is too great. I would assume the symptoms are so diverse that it may be a bad transmission control module. Which is about $200, and fairly easy to replace:

But there are other possibilities, such as a bad relief valve could be letting main pressure drop too low.
This is the type of thing which does require an expert and can't easily be done remotely.

Why won't my 1998 chrysler cirrus shift into gear?

I'm not familiar with YOUR Chrysler, BUT... my brother' father-in-law had a Buick [about 1998 model] that would NOT shift into any gear UNLESS the brake pedal was FULLY DEPRESSED!!!!!

I could move the shift lever into any of the indicator positions, but the transmission would not engage if my foot was not firmly on the brake pedal while selecting a gear position!

Tranmission won't shift into upper gears. What might the problem be?

The transmission is in limp mode -- 2nd gear only -- this is a protection devise to prevent damage to the transmission when there is a failure -- could be as simple as low fluid or a speed sensor not working properly.. 70% of the time it is something internally wrong with the transmission
