If it has a lot of miles on it, it could be low compression - [ common problem on older vehicles with lack of consistant maintiance.

If it won't crank the engine over, how do you know it is not firing? The engine has to be cranking to check for spark. If it won't crank, problem is in the starting circuit, not the ignition system. Test the starter.

My 2000 chevy blazer has been running slighty rough then yesterday when I went to start it up there was a bang and some smoke came from the engine then it raced a bit then dropped down to a very off rough...

Hi Shane, I would suggest you take the vehicle for a scan or if it doesn't run get someone to come and scan it. I would think that the problem has something to do with the ignition timing which on your vehicle may be a defective camshaft or crank shaft sensor. I'm making a blind guess so I revert to my first suggestion. Regards John

98 Chevy blazer won't start up but will crank ,,

Try giving it a shot of starting fluid. You don't say if it's actually firing. If it tries or runs for a few seconds off of the starting fluid then try changing the fuel pump relay. It's inside of the glove box on the left hand side behind the little door. If that doesn't work it's most likely the fuel pump.

What about the fuel filter????? Have you changed it out??? If you can spary something like a started fluid, that means it is a fuel problem. My last check, it has to be above 50-psi on the fuel pressure to make it run right. I had 35psi, but whould not get over 30mph or down hill maybe 45mph. Check both filter & pressure, but check pressure with a New fule filter!!!!
