Exaust intake leaking

It's exhaust manifold. There are two manifolds, the intake manifold in the valley between the cylinder heads, and the exhaust manifolds, one on each side of a v figured engine.

And, yes, a leak in the exhaust or the intake will make it run lean. If the leak is close to the engine, it can do harm to the valves, too. There is a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the engine block. Likewise, there is an intake manifold gasket between the intake manifold and the block.

What are the symptoms of a bad intake gasket on a 1999 buick century?

Coolant leaks,When the intake manifold gasket cracks or blows out, coolant will leak out of the intake manifold. You may see puddles underneath your car or notice smoke or steam coming off of the engine and exhaust from the coolant dripping onto it and then burning.Overheating, If the intake manifold gasket fails and allows coolant to leak out into the engine, your car will begin to overheat. If your car frequently runs low on coolant or begins to overheat, check the intake manifold gasket.Running poorly, When the intake manifold gasket falters, it affects the way the motor handles its emission gases. The change in pressure can affect the vacuum in the intake as well as how smoothly your car runs. Mainly, it will idle roughly and may hesitate, cough or sputter.

now is the time to start checking for vacuum leaks. I just fixed a 96 F-150 today with a cracked intake manifold. Look at all of your vacuum lines under the hood, that may include lines to the vacuum booster, the pcv valve, the egr valve, the air box, and in rare cases, even the battery box. If you can't find any leaks there, get a can of ether, start the truck, and spray it at the points where the intake meets the heads. If the RPM revs high or dips really low, you have a leak either in the manifold itself (like a crack) or the gasket has failed and it's time for a new one. I hope this helps.

How do I troubleshoot service engine codes for 2002 Ford F-150: PO174 and PO171?

This is the engine lean code. Too much air is entering the engine. Intake manifold gaskets can leak, vacuum lines get old and crack. Check the operation of the EGR and PVC valves, In short it is not easy to find the problem.

My coolant seems to have oil mixed with it. It is a milky color. What is causing this?

This could be a bad head gasket or intake manifold gasket. The only other thing that will usually do that to the coolant is if you or anyone else in the trucks past has added stop leak to the coolant as this is usually oil based and has the same appearance.

buy a can of carb spray and shot it around the intake area, when u hit a leak the engine will sound different. If this is a 5.0L then chances are the problem is an intake leak at the upper manifold gasket to the lower manifild, did lots of them, the gasket gets sucked in.
