Would that cause the engine not to get any spark ?

  • Wisslindixy Dec 29, 2010

Yes. I had the electronic ignition in my 94 toyota pickup fail and it just stopped dead right there in the road. No spark. The electronic ignition does the same thing as in the old days when cars had an ignition coil. It's the part that gives the distributor spark to work with and the distributor tells the spark which cylinder to go to and when. Electronic ignition is more efficient than the old coil system was but both are prone to failure.

If your engine dosen`t even crank you have to first make sure the battery is fully charged. If so it sounds like it is your starter. When your starter goes bad your engine wont crank you get nothing when you turn the key.Try to start there.

It was sputtering from time to time... Had to give it a little gas this morning to get it to turn over... Came back from work...wont start cranking fine... just wont turn over 91 lebaron

well first off you want to make sure your getting fuel and if you are getting fuel then check the pressure to make sure it is were it should be you can rent them from autozone for free it got a deposit but you get it back when you return it . if fuel is good check your spark pull out spark plug have someone try to start car look at the plug if you have bright blue spark in all your plugs spark is fine if orangeish color spark change ignition rotor and distibutor cap and wires you might as well do it all if spark and gas are both good

check crankshaft postion sensor as hard starts and on most cars if there bad they wont start also check camshaft position sensor they both tell your cars pc when to fire spark and to what cylinder to fire it to

I have a 1993 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder motor. it has a new fuel pump, distibutor cap, rotor button, plugs and wires. my problem is the motor wont start. also the engine rotates slowly. any ideas? is the...

First item you need to go after is the slow turning. have the battery charged and load tested. Once that the battery is verified as fully charged and good, put a volt meter between the two posts and crank the engine. voltage should not drop below 9.5V If it does, It is likely that your starter is worn out. If your distributor has a bolt that goes through an ear that is part of the distributor, you cannot adjust the timing. It is pre-set and controlled by the computer. Make sure you have the firing order correct and that you are indexing from the correct position on the cap.(turn the engine to tdc on the timing scale and rotor should either be pointing directly 180 degrees away from #1 or directly at it. Make sure you are getting spark and fuel when engine is cranking and it should start.

check the fuseble link.
you can measure it, and make sure the contact are clean and secured.
the other thing is the check the ignition switch, make sure you have 12v going to the switch.
check thermo switch on top of the block.

No fire to my plugs

Check your timing belt. Take the cap off, and turn the engine over to see if the cam is turning. If that's okay, , then, yes there is a diode in the distributor. And they are pretty pricey. If i was you i'd go get a distributor from an auto wrecker and replace the whole thing. It's easier, and cheaper.Good luck!

Engine cranks. sparks but does not start. fuel pressure ok

Have you replaced the crank sensor? The crank sensor on top of the trans. bell housing does control the injector pulse through the ECM.
The sensor is a common problem with the Jeeps. Sometimes the sensor stops working when the engine is hot and will start again when it cools off and sometimes it dies from oil leaking on top of it or it just dies.
