Question about 2002 GMC Envoy

2 Answers

While struggling to come out of a parking space in icy conditions, the car lost power steering and the battery stopped charging.Checked uder hood and the serpentine belt had come off track. the belt and tensioner were replaced this fixed the problem with the battery charging, but the car still has no power steering. The pump is still full of clear fluid and there appear to be no leaks. there is not now, nor was there previously a whining noise to indicate the pump has gone bad.

Honestly it sounds like they got the belt on wrong, you have (should have) a diagram of the belt rout under the hood some place, check for yourself.

Good luck,

Remove the serpentine belt and pull on the power steering pump pulley (pull out towards the radiator). If the pulley pulls out of the pump than the shaft is broken. This is very common on GM vehicles.

The pump is very easy to replace and I can give you some further instructions if needed.

Instrument Cluster stopped working

Sounds like you lost all electrical power. have the battery condition checked, it may be dead or you may have a blown main fuse under the hood due to a large short circuit.

KIA spectra 07makes clicking sound and starts today it made sound then died then I charged the battery but under hood it smells like burning rubber, electric, or coolent it turned on and drove

i would have a very closed inspection of all the wiring and pipe work in the engine bay , when engine is cold and make sure there are no wire's of piping touching anything that gets hot ie the exhaust, also check the condition of the drive belts for the alternator, power steering , a/c if installed and make sure there in good condition, if all looks ok then i'd get the alternator checked for charge rate and the starter motor for condition and power draw on start up , hope this helps give you a place to start

Brake light, battery light, service engine soon light on. white smoke from under the hood. area near belts loud and I smelled burning rubber. put car in park the engine shut off. What's the problem?

If your battery light came on, and you smelled burning rubber, it could be that your belt that drives the alternator, which charges your battery is broken or flipped upside down. Do not drive with the battery light on or else you will stop dead when the battery does not have enough charge in it to keep the car running. If you decide to drive and not follow my advice, then be sure all extra electrical power is off eg. radio, fan, DVD, lights etc.

GMC 3500 error message "Battery not charging" and lost all power steering and brakes. Is this the alternator?

You might want to pop the hood and make sure your serpentine belt is still there. If the belt snaps/breaks, your power steering pump, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor will all stop turning. That's where I would start.

Battery sign on constant and lost power steering

Your alternator has stopped charging the battery. Have the alternator replaced or the cables checked immediately. Don't drive the car if possible cause it will quit driving eventually.

My 2009 Toyota corolla check batter light came on while I was driving and less than a minute later I loss power steering completely. Once I parked I turned off car and tried to restart it but it just made...

If you lost power steering, then the engine stopped, you probably lost your belt, which drives both your alternator and your power steering pump. Lift the hood and look at the pulleys and see if the belt is on them.
If the engine stopped running, then you lost power steering, I can't be sure.

Where is the fuse box in 2002 ford taurus ses

The fuse panel is located below and to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedal. Has black cover about 10" high X 3" wide. Also, the power distribution box is located under the hood, usually close to the battery.

Volt light is on

Your lucky you didn't hydro lock the engine. You probably shorted the alternator and its not putting out amps needed to operate most accessories on the vehicle (like power steering pump). Have the charging system checked out. Replace the items the repair shop tells you to replace.

Power steering went out while driving and the battery light went on, but then went off again. I parked it (with struggle) in a parking lot. Can I drive it again before getting it looked at, if it starts?

very much sounds like a belt ,and that was the alternator light whether the same beltdrives them both or it was stalled with abit of the belt that was breaking up ,who knows ?i wouldn`t recommend you drive it dependant on the type of power steering it is ,some serious damage could result ,that would be a lot more to fix than the cost of a tow .
