Question about Volvo S90

1 Answer

It's a 98 S90...it won't start. it did it right before Christmas. it's as if the battery died so I changed it. still nothing. so I had it towed and was told that it was my alarm relay, which supposedly cost more than my car almost. I told them I didn't want to purchase the piece after she told me that it could be bypassed. I bring my car home. six days later. it won't start again. it is not my alternator or my battery or my engine. the car doesn't make any noise. I put tge key in and turn it and now all my lights are dum but still nothing sounding like it tried to start.

do you know if the "bypass" the mechanic did was even necessary? I feel like they just want me to buy the part when that's not even the real cause.

    Hi

Relays from the dealer are expensive, you are better off going to a breakers yard to buy one, as for the bypass, anything that has that term attached to it is normally a bad thing as there is nearly always consiqences, find out what they did and get back to me. Did they say for sure it was the alarm relay? only often alarms do not have individual relays, they run through central locking etc etc.

The Battery has gone flat. When you tried to jump start it, this did not change the battery state its still flat.
I bet you will get the same code on the scanner if you remove the battery. Take the battery out and charge it with a battery charger overnight, then try it again.

2001 Hyundia Sonata changed 4 alternators in 6 months, figure it has to be something else. Car will start and run fine and then will die while driving. Will start up again sometimes on its own and...

Two ways the the battery was the problem:
1. It was not the right voltage battery installed.
2. It was a faulty battery...which is very possible.
As of right now, you Sonata runs, correct?

I have a 98 gmc Jimmy my remote lock battery died so we were unlocking the truck with the key and driving well that lasted only 2 days and the truck died we got a jump to get it home got a new battery...

Getting spark? Power coming from the battery I think you meant to say, if I am correct. If it won't jump start, sounds like a cable from battery to vehicle is not connected. Igniton switch connection or fuse maybe. Check the daisy chaining of the negative battery cable for clean contacts. Also a starter relay could be bad. Just some more suggestions to add. Don't drive to far from home until repaired. Towing cost too much as you know by now.
Never did like remote locks, We as humans seem to be getting more and more depended on convienances that cause us more inconvienances. Could try a positive cable to starter to check if it will turn over the starter. Voltage regulator could cause battery not to charge while driving. When car dies, do lights work or they dim from engine sucking battery dry. Just some suggestions.

Xterra won't start when the battery has juice free of corrosion and starter is freshly installed

Check the cleanliness and tightness of the battery terminals. Loosen, twist and retighten them. Also check the cleanliness and tightness of the black earth cable where it attaches to the engine block/bodywork. A bad earth can cause the symptoms you describe.

A quick check you can do is to connect a jump cable to the battery negative terminal - the earth - and connect the other end of the cable to somewhere suitable on the engine/bodywork.

If the car starts no problem with the jumper cable - it's pointing towards a bad earth/connection somewhere on the battery earth

You have to find out if it has fuel and spark . One or the other is missing at the demise of the engine.
