Question about 2003 Hyundai Accent

1 Answer

Chugged a few and stalled , won't restart , starting sound's diff. (2002 accent)

  1. After acceleration at traffic lite car chugged a few times and stalled and now won't restart. We removed back seat and removed outbound fuel line from filter and seam to have good fuel flow .
  2. next we checked for timing belt breakage, it appears to be fine , not really tight however but in place .
  3. It was very hot that day that it stalled in Tucson and to save gas I did not have the A/C on until 5 min or so before the car quit on me. I only drove a few miles with the AC on and the temp indicator on the dash showed no noticeable increase in eng temp .

    • Ok a common problem on a 2002 and 2003 Hyundai is when it stall's and won't start is somtimes caused by the failure of a " CKP" sensor.( crankshaft posinioning ) ..........great , .......now where is it ?

  • Joe Emmott Jul 09, 2008

Someone suggested that before I go through the troubble of removing , and replaceing the CKP sensior do the old trick of removing a spark plug and hold it agest the eng. block and see if I have a spark ......I do,....Doe's that mean the CKP sensour is working ?

started car, and drove off then it felt as is their was a fuel shortage(stutering, and no power), parked car and it would not start after that.

Since then checked fuel pump -ok
Removed fuel injector rail ok fuel flow
    Spark plugs are firing
    Timing belt intact
Starter turns as if there in no compression or too little

I think you should head to a mechanic. Sounds like you got water in the fuel system. You could possibly resolve the issue by filling up with a fresh tank of gas, but that could also cause more problems if there is a lot of water in there already. I'd take it to a trusted mechanic.

It sounds like there could be 2 possible problems. 1) the spark plugs might be too old and do not convert power efficiently causing it to shudder or even stall when power needs increase (I suggest a tune-up). Or 2) the timing could be off and needs to be adjusted by a mechanic, while you're at it you might want to see how worn your timing belt is, if it no longer grips it can cause off time explosions in the valve chambers and you'll definitely get some shaking action and even stalling and if it snaps, the car won;t be going anywhere (til the belt it gets replaced).
