1281 code engine cold thermostat

Is there a step by step way to fix this problem? Is there a tool you can buy to remove these codes from computer cost and place? Is it ok to disconnect battery to reset engine light?

Disconnect battery for 15 min and code will reset and engine light will go off, you can purchase a reliable code reader for 40-50 bucks and worth every penny great for do it yourself fixes save you lots of money try ebay for good deals..

My engine light came on, code P1281 is what the computer read, what does that mean? and how would I fix it?

Hi...Code P1281 means the engine is staying cold too long - check your thermostat. It is possible your thermostat is stuck in the open position.

Hope this helped,

  • P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction

For the P0700 I would check your tps sensor first to make sure it is good. This is a common failure in this vehicle which can sometimes show as a transimission malfunction.

Hope this helps, if you want alot more info about jeeps goto

2004 Grand Jeep Cheorkee: Check Engine Light code conflict

You need to inspect those parts. The two codes, in a way are related. But they happened in different seasons. These newer cars are picky about what is going on and the signals it receives. A scan-tool is needed to see or collect active data from that O2 sensor and see if it is bad.
If the thermostat is bad then replace it but I can't tell you if you need an O2 sensor. You can tell the service rep. about what you found, it cant hurt.

Hi, my CEL is on and I was told the OBD2 code: 1281. I found out that it means that "the engine stays cold for too long". Is this something that I need to get fixed? I seems like it might be a temperature...

it doesnt seem like something that is "catastrophic" at this time but it would not be a bad idea to have the t-stat changed before it stays closed. make sure the coolant mixture is in accordance with your "mild" outside temps right now. lol. this should correct the issue and this summer have the cooling system serviced again to get the mixture a little more mild for summer temps. if you keep this up, you will be ahead of your maintenance schedule and have a very pristine cooling system as well as keeping corrosion away from your head gaskets/s.

There could be a hundred causes for a check engine light. First step is to hook up a computer scan tool and see what codes the computer has. The next step depends on the codes.

2003 Kia Sedona Engine light is on

Your engine light come's on when your pcm (powertrain control module) senses a problem with the input of one or more of the many sensors on your vehicle, you can retrieve the engine light trouble code with a OBD II diagnostic tool, you can buy one at most auto parts store's, if you don't want to spend the money to buy one some auto part's store's will retrieve the engine trouble code's at no cost, for example auto zone, after retrieving the trouble code it should point you in the right direction for fixing the problem.
    good luck,
    hope this was helpful.
