This noise can be the result of any of these causes:
• Gaps between the mounting bracket and the plastic trim of the convertible top lock handles
• Rubbing of various weatherstrip pieces and plastic parts on the convertible top frame
• Dry pivot points on the convertible top frame .
Raise the convertible top, and close all the windows. While an assistant test-drives the vehicle to duplicate
the noise, use a stethoscope to pinpoint the source.
Then do all the steps in the REPAIR PROCEDURE.
NOTE: This repair procedure fixes the most common causes for this convertible top noise. Using the
stethoscope helps in the diagnosis to make sure there are not other sources that need to be looked at.
Shin-Etsu Silicone Grease:
(One tube repairs about 25 vehicles.)
White Lithium Grease:
(One can repairs about 25 vehicles.)
NOTE: Make sure you use white lithium grease in the aerosol can. It has special solvents that allow
deep penetration into small areas of the joint to effectively dampen any noise caused by movement. It also sets up quickly to form a thick coating as the carrier gas evaporates. Other grease or application methods do not work as well.
1. Cut eight 10 mm x 10 mm pieces of EPT sealer(3T).
2. Remove the adhesive backing from each piece, then fold each piece over on itself to form a10 mm x 5 mm wad.
3. Remove the lock handle (two screws), and turn it over.
4. Use a small pocket screwdriver to stuff four wads of
EPT sealer between the plastic trim and the mounting bracket of the lock handle as shown.
5. Reinstall the lock handle.
6. Repeat steps 3 thru 5 for the other lock handle.
7. Apply a dab of Shin-Etsu silicone grease to the A-pillar header weatherstrip. Use your finger to rub the grease thoroughly into the weatherstrip material.
8. Apply a dab of silicone grease to each of the door glass weatherstrips (six total) on the convertible top. Use your finger to rub the grease thoroughly into the weatherstrip material.
9. Apply a dab of silicone grease to the hook, locating pin, and rubber cushion of each lock handle.
Stuff EPT between the trim and the bracket in four places.

10. Open the convertible top halfway, and apply a dab of silicone grease to the hard plastic caps on the ends of the convertible top frame and to the ends of the door glass weatherstrips.
11. Use a shop towel to cover the back side of each convertible top frame pivot point.
12. Spray white lithium grease onto each of the pivot points.
13. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the noise is gone.

Rear air leak in sun roof

these are usually pretty easy to adjust, but have notoriously delicate mechanisms so be carefull and don't force anything. has probably 4 maybe 6 screws holding the glass in. glass should be a little lower than the roof in front and a little higher than the roof in the back when in the home position. just loosen all the screws but don't take them out, then you can make adjustments to position of glass.

My car metal roof is making noises like asif it is stuck somewhere and its not closing properly ? any ideas

When the roof is closing and it stops does it make a juddering noise or is it quiet. First of all open the roof fully and check that the guide rails on either side are free of dirt, use a paint brush and WD40 and use plenty of cloths to prevent dirt splashing every where. I have a '96 E-class but I think the roof mechanism is very similar. If the roof make a juddering noise this is not so good. The motor is located above the left rear wheel in the boot. The mechanism consists of a toothed cable driven by the motor through a pipe guide to the rear of the roof panel. You will have to disassemble this motor and gain access to its drive gear in order to clean it of metal shavings/debris and to re-grease it. It is a very frustrating job and one that may wish to leave to the Mercedes experts because even having rebuilt the motor there is a real knack to adjusting it. If the roof is just coming to a stop and not making any noise then you in luck. Locate the motor and the large central nut on top is the clutch adjuster. Tighten it by 1/6th of turn and try to close the roof again. Keep adjusting the clutch tighter until the roof closes. If you hear juddering noises, immediately slacken the nut off and the above notes will apply.

When i start my jimmy it makes a clunking noice and when i shut it off but when i is running and driveing it doesnt make that noice

Sounds as if your ignition timing is off... Could be in need of adjustment, a vacuum advance line is off or broken to the distributor, or worse, your timing chain - belt has slipped a tooth...

Timing Chain

With the book time not sure but your timeing chain is self adjusting so if it is that you would need to replace it. Not hard to do yourself, if you know how but if not don't try you maynot be able to start it again. I can tell you it would be a couple a hundred bucks for a mechenic to do for you, but if it brakes it will cost a lot more because it puts everything out and you need to start from scratch basically
