The controll box for your heater unit is located under dash that is bad 100 percent sure i had to change one in that very same car before it is a pain to do but its cheap to do

I have a 1986 GMC 1500 with a 5.0 and stock rochester carb. The truck will start but you must keep gassing it as it won't idle. It kicks off every time. Any suggestions on how to fix this cold natured


fast idle speed screw, works off the fast idle cam which the choke adjustment sets, it works together by linkages. This is the raised idle speed setting you need to keep a cold engine running. First you set the idle speed by the idle speed screw with engine at normal operating temperature. Then you set the linkage up so the cam is on a raised step, throttle will be held on that raised step. then you can turn the idle speed screw to get idle at about 1500-1800 rpm. Now when you start engine cold, choke will set the fast idle cam on that raised step- when engine starts and runs it should be running at your fast idle setting. That's how it supposed to work, you just have to get everything adjusted right. I hate carburetors, they never stay adjusted right. Considering their complexity and small mechanical parts, no wonder.

I also own a 2004 XG 350 and I agree with you. The first thought that comes to mind is a malfunction in the Auto AC control module (that's the virtical console unit which you adjust the fan speed, Auto, Mode, Recirculate, etc. are located). The other thought which occurs to me is that you might have a 'low engine coolant' condition (but that would eventually turn on your "Check Engine Light" and a code would be set indicating the Thermostat was not working properly). Did the Svc Mgr scan your vehicle for any DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)? If he didn't (or if he didn't have a technician do it), then you'll want to have that done so you'll at least know this may not be the problem. Sometimes the thermostat can stick 'OPEN" and the engine doesn't reach it's operating temperature (which is where you get the heat to warm up the inside of the car)... so, if the engine is 'COLD' so would also be the coolant and it's the coolant that brings the heat into the passenger compartment (via the heater core).

2006 grand prix heater only blows cold air. both heater hoses are hot blower motor works fine.


Sounds like the temperature blend door actuator may be bad or the vacuum hose to it is disconnected.

Poor Heater System Performance CAUTION
Check all fluid levels and adjust as needed, before operating vehicle for extended periods at idle.
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Idle the engine until the thermostat opens (upper radiator hose will be hot) Is the engine at normal operating temperature (approx. 200° F)? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 16.
  3. Set the mode selector to FLOOR mode.
  4. Set the heater control selector to the warmest temperature setting.
  5. Set the blower speed the lowest setting.
  6. Carefully feel the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to the next step.
  7. Set the mode selector to PANEL mode.
  8. Select the maximum blower speed.
  9. Select the warmest temperature setting.
  10. Place a thermometer into the center I/P PANEL air outlet and affix a second thermometer to the heater core outlet heater hose.
  11. Record the temperature at the center I/P PANEL air outlet and at the heater core outlet heater hose. Are the two temperature readings about equal? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 13.
  12. Inspect and repair the cowl, cowl area, recirculation door, and the HVAC evaporator/heater core case for cold air leaks. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  13. Inspect the temperature door operation. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  14. Turn OFF the engine. Back-flush the heater core. Start the engine. Select the FLOOR mode and the lowest blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose feel significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 17.
  15. Replace the heater core. When the repair is completed, go to step 17.
  16. Check for low engine temperature problems, Repair or replace as needed, go to step 17.
  17. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system operates properly, the repair is complete. If the heater still does not work properly, repeat the entire procedure.

The ac is on full at all times, even when you adjust the fan hight. someone sayed i need a a/c auto amplifier. but i can't find that part

What control turn on heat


OK, just set the temperature to 'Auto/Econ' on the buttons on the heater control and adjust the 'temperature' up or down with the hottter/colder buttons until it has a comfortable temperature like 68 deg. F or 72 deg. F. The system should work automatically after that.

I have 2001 Volvo S80 and the heater and AC comes on for a minute or two and then shuts off. The dealer said it was the blower mower burned out. How can that be if it works now and then?


Assuming that the dealer is correct and isolated the problem down to the blow motor...
it IS possible for the motor to work intermittently due to heat buildup. Malfunctions due to heat will call the motor to run fine for a bit, and then quit when the motor reaches a high enough temperature to cause a malfunction. It would then quit working until it cooled back down, and repeat the process.

Whether is it just dead, or it is intermittently dead, for all intensive purposes, the motor is no longer usable and needs to be replaced with a new unit.

I would suspect the blower resistor based on your description. The resistor is located under the hood on this vehicle

Heater control wont heat. AC and fan works fine


mechanical or vacuum operated valve that releases hot coolant into the heater core may be stuck closed. or the heater core may be clogged. hope this helps.
