1998 arctic cat 300..... hard to shift you have to

I do not know much if anything about an arctic cat but if you have a shifter you have some kind of a transmission and if you need to get it into gear or neutral but cannot do so without rocking the machine or the shifter back and forth a slipping clutch would not likely have anything to do with the problem. You likely should not be trying to shift gears with the clutch engaged and the clutch normally should be FULLY slipping ie completely disengaged when you are shifting. It sounds like you could have sticking shifter linkage parts, worn shifter parts or internal transmission parts, bent shifter forks, worn shifter cam or drum grooves or shifter fork pins or other worn parts or maybe even low or no transmission fluid.

Manual transmission stuck first gear

I too say its a stuck shift linkage.
Open the link below to see the image.
The bushings (A, D and E) can wear out with time and use. I have seen the joint (at A) that attaches at the transmission get seized too. These parts can be removed from the car with the transmission in place. http://globalcarbrands.com/i/subaru/subaru-shifter/subaru-shifter-06.jpg

I reversed my car and went to shift into drive and it was stuck in reverse. Now that i parked the car it is stuck in neutral with the ebrake on and will no shift any other way

It could easily be a linkage problem, or something inside the car on the shifter internally in broken (the safety lock) may not be working. Check that first. That would be the easiest and cheapest fix. Pick a part will have these pars a dime a dozen. Good luck, hope this has been helpful.

Stick shift

Hi:
The shift pattern is pretty much the same on all 5 speed cars. The top row is the odd numbers, 1-3-5
the bottom row is 2-4-Reverse. The center position is neutral

Here is the key: The shifter is slightly spring-loaded to the center position. If you hold in the clutch pedal and pull the shifter to neutral, and let go of it, it will automatically be lined up in the position, that if you pushed it forward , it would go to 3rd gear, and if you pulled it back, it would go into 4th gear.
This way, to start driving, you start out in neutral, grab the shifter lightly, and push it first to the left, then forward. This is first gear, where you start out. when you want to shift to second, push in the clutch, and keeping left pressure on the shifter, pull all the way back . Here is the easy part, 2nd to 3rd. When you are ready, push in the clutch, and just push the gear shift forward , till it hits neutral, and is spring loaded to the middle. Then you just push it straight forward to 3rd, then next shift, straight back to 4th.
Last gear, 5th: push forward to the neutral row, then Push to the right till it lines up ,and forward to the 5th gear. Reverse should only be shifted into from a dead stop. Find neutral, push the shifter all the way right, then pull back towards you. Hope this helps.
Practice a bunch in the driveway!

I have a 1994 chevy S-10 4x4. I started the truck and tried to shift out of reverse but the shifter would not move, so i tried letting the clutch out but the truck would not move and i could smell the...

it sounds like a trasmission cover problem in the old gm's you could
remove the shift boot + there is a cap at the base of the shifter with a
slot for the shift lever to move around in this is spring loaded push down
on the cap turn c clockwise it should pop up + you can remove the
shifter use a flashlight + look into the cover there should be sqare shafts
with notch's in them use a long heavy screw driver(or tire iron) press the
clutch down(e brake on wheels chocked) and allign slots in the ctr. the
transmission should now be in neutral put the shifter in and gently shift
through the gears if it will not go into all the gears you may have a
bent or broken shift fork in that case the cover has to come off the
transmission. if you have a manual transfer case put it in neutrel and
press the clutch + gently try to wiggle the shift into neutral somtimes
you get lucky. if your setup is different then what I described drop by
the library + check out a chiltons/moter/mitchells or haynes repair
manual any of these can give you step by steps + diagrams for this
project. hope this helps good luck

After starting the car and pressing on the clutch, my shifter wont go into any gears, i go to put it in first and the shifter itself wont go in, what could cause this

If the shifter feels loose, the shifter linkage / damper to the gearbox became disconnected, or broken. These parts are serviceable, and should be replaced when shifting ceases to be accurate, and gears are hard to find. If the shifter feels normal, then the clutch is out of adjustment and not disengaging completely, or there is a failure of some sort inside the gearbox.
