The sparkplug is striped around the bolt of the plug and theres not much room to hit a smaller socket onto it how do i tilt the engine

What do you remove to have access to spark plugs

Tools you will need before you start1. 1/4" ratchet2. 1/4" extention3. 10 mm socket, 1/4" drive4. small flat bladed screwdriver5. 3/8" ratchet6. 3/8" long extention7. 5/8" spark plug socket, 3/8 " drive8. air compressor with blow gun or can of compressed air9. long needle nose pliers10. 1/4" internal diameter rubber hose 8 inches long11. wire coat hanger12. neverseez lubricantProcedure1. Remove the two 10 mm cap nuts on the top plastic housing over the engine2. Remove the two fasteners on the back of the housing and remove the plastic cover3. You will see four plastic blocks with four wire clips on each block. These blocks are individual coils for each sparkplug.4. Use compressed air to blow out debris around the blocks5. Use the small flat bladed screwdriver to carefully lift up on the tab that holds the electrical connector onto the block and slide the wire clip off the block.6. Remove the 10 mm bolt that holds the plastic block onto the engine. Use the needle pliers to firmly grasp the plastic screw and pull straight up to remove it
7. Loosen the 10 mm nut on end of the plastic rail that holds the wiring harness for the blocks so that the round plastic washer on the bottom of the block will not break when you pull off the block8. Carefully pull the plastic block out of the engine. There is a 4 inch tube attached to the block that extends into the engine to the spark plug. It will take some twisting and pulling but you must be careful not to catch the back part of the round plastic washer that you cannot see, on the bottom of the plastic wiring harness.9. The spark plug is at the bottom of the 4 inch hole.10. Blow compressed air down the hole to remove debris11. Use a 5/8 sparkplug socket with a rubber collar on the 3/8" extention to remove the spark plug. The rubber collar will hold onto the spark plug as it is removed.12. The NGK website recommends making sure the spark plugs have the correct gap .044 but the spark plug box says not to adust the gap because you might damage the needle point iridium tip. The new spark plug has a protective cardboard tube that is removed.13. Spark plugs can stick inside aluminum heads and break off when you try remove them, leaving only the threads of the plug inside the engine which will necessitate removing the head to remove broken spark plug. Putting neverseez on the threads of the new spark plug will prevent that in future spark plug changes14. Now comes an interesting choice. You can use the rubber tube over the neck of the spark plug to slowly drop it down the hole and hand tighten it or you can use the spark plug socket with the rubber collar. If you use the spark plug socket, the rubber collar will stick to the plug and you will pull off the extention, leaving the socket in the hole. A pair of long needlenose pliers will reach into the hole and remove the socket, but the rubber collar may remain on the plug and you will have to bend a piece of coathanger with a short 90 degree tip to reach into the hole and pull out the rubber collar. The rubber collar is there to prevent you from cocking a regular 5/8" deep socket at an angle which will break off the neck of the sparkplug, necessitating another 10 dollars and another trip to the auto parts store.15. After the spark plug is hand tight, give it 1/2 turn more.16. Replace the square block, being sure that the black silicone gasket on the bottom of the round plastic washer does not get bound up on the engine post where the 10 mm bolt goes. Tighten the bolt17. replace the electrical clip.18. Go to the next spark plug and repeat the procedure.19. After the last spark plug is done, be sure to retighten the 10 mm nut on the wiring harness rail20. Replace the plastic cover over the engine and you are done

I would like to know to change the sparkplugs, if i need to take motormounts off and pull the motor upwards to get to the back plugs. thank you!!!!

yes all front wheel drive 6 and 8 cylinders u must remove rear mount bolt loosen front mount bolt to change plugs pull engine forward and secure bolt in hole to keep elevated to change plugs

I am writing you the method on how to change sparkplugs, you may now have an idea where spark plug is loacted.

The Ford Expedition uses eight spark plugs to accommodateits eight-cylinder engine. Replacing the spark plugs every 75,000 miles is animportant part of overall vehicle maintenance. 1. Disconnectthe negative (black) battery cable from the battery terminal. Remove thewiring harnesses from the spark plug coils. There will be four on each side ofthe engine block, which you can remove by simply pulling them out of the sparkplug coils. 2. Unscrew the 7mm bolt from each of the spark plug coils usinga socket wrench and 7mm socket. 3. Pull each spark plug coil out of the engine block. Pull themout slowly, being careful not to damage or tear the coils. 4. Use a socket wrench and spark plug socket to unscrew eachspark plug from the engine block. Once you remove these, discard them. 5. Place the new spark plugs into the engine block and tightenthem using the socket wrench and spark plug socket. 6. Slide the spark plug coils back into the engine block. 7. Bolt the spark plug coils back into place using a socketwrench and 7mm socket. 8. Reattachthe wiring harnesses to the spark plug coils. 9 . Connect the negative battery cable to the negative batteryterminal.

How do I remove the rear three spark plugs on a toyota avalon 1998

Hi, to change spark plug first remove coil over connecting clip ensuring to depress connector release. Next remove coil over retaining bolts. Remove coil over carefully directing coil toward driver side until rubber end able to flex out of sparkplug access tube. Remove sparkplug using sparkplug socket with rubber insert. Had to remove ratchet to gain enough clearance. At this point you should be able to remove sparkplug by tilting extension & socket toward drivers side of car. Then lay horizontal & remove toward passenger side of car. If unable to gain access in this manner you probably have too long an extension. Take care as not to damage spark plug coil over as they are considerably expensive.

Starting on the pasenger side. Remove the intake tube running from the air filter box to the throttle body and disconnect enough tubes to swing it out of the way. The sparkplugs are down below the small coils you see at the end of the sparkplug wires. With a 10mm socket remove bolt holding the coil, disconnect the plug at the top of the coil by squeezing it at the top and pulling straight off the coils.

Pull the coil straight up. there will be about a 6 inch tube that connects to the top of the spark plug when inserted. You will need a 5/8 sparkplug socket and about 2 feet of extensions to make it easy on yourself. Insert the spark plug socket and extensions down the hole you removed the coils with the tube from and remove and replace the sparkplug. Reinstall your coil onto the engine and move to the next one until you have replaced all the plugs on the passenger side.

Make sure you reconnect all the plugs to the coils, hoses to the intake tube and reinstall your intake tube. The drivers side is a little easier. Pop the spark plug wires from their plastic holders to free enough slack to be able to pull your sparkplug wires out of the block. For the plug closest to the front of the engine you will need to remove the 10mm bolt holding the ground wires to the intake manifold to be able to free enough space for removing the plug.

For the middle plug you will need to remove the 10mm bolt holding the bracket that is holding one of the throttle cables at the top of the intake manifold. For the rear plug just pop the flexible hose that runs behind the black metal bracket straight up out of its clip and push it out of the way along with any other hoses that run through this area. Pull the spark plug wire from its place by pulling straight up just like with the coils. there will also be about a 6 inch tube running down to the spark plug at the bottom of these plugs.

Remove and replace the plugs same as before. make sure you reconnect all your hoses and wires to their previous locations. Doublecheck to make sure you reconnect all the ground wires/ brackets. Also you will need to use " twin ground electrode plugs" (see sticker on front of your plastic timing belt cover? to the right of the radiator hose).

Easy way to change spark plugs on 2001 buick regal

Through history automobile engineers have delighted in finding ways to make changing sparkplugs difficult. There was a model in the 70's I believe called a Vega that you had to undo the motor mount and jack the engine up to even tough the sparkplug. Probably the greatest asset to changing these sparkplugs is to get a good set of sockets with a variety of extentions and universal joints with different size ratchets. I once had a set of sockets with a ratchet that had no handle. You just put different sized extentions in the base for handles and it gave you more options. You might get extra ratchets and cut the handles to make them shorter to aid you in this job in the future. Also a good idea to remove the oxygen sensor from the exhaust downpipe and the bracket that holds the 02 sensor harness which is mounted to the exhaust manifold. The hardest part is getting the metal shields and spark plug boots off the rear plugs. During wire installation make sure you use hi-temp silicone grease on the plug boots so the metal shields come off easier next time around. Many will try to tilt the engine by taking motor mounts loose but getting that back together isn't worth the effort and may cause more problems than it's worth. Also mark your plug wires so you get them back in the same locations when you're done.

How to change the spark plugs

you need a spark plug socket usually a 5/8 and a ratchet with an extension (might not need it) you might have to tilt your engine forward to get the back plugs(fwd) remove the boot(connected to top of sparkplug) ONE AT A TIME replace the plug and plug wire if you are replacing the wires RECOMENDED trace them one at a time and replace it, plug it onto the spark plug, then on to the next one, MAKE SURE YOU DONT REMOVE MORE THEN ONE BOOT AT A TIME, OR SPARKPLUG AT A TIME. take it one at a time so you dont mess the firing order up.

Change plugs

The front three spark plugs are easy to replace, it's the rear ones that is tricky and there are a few ways to get to them. 
1 way is you need to remove the "dog bones" or top mounts on the engine. then pry the engine forward about 4" There is a special tool for tilting the engine made by Lisle corp. called a GM engine tilt tool about $40. This will give you room to get the the rear spark plugs with extensions and a spark plug socket with a swivel attached to it. 

2 you can have a friend help you buy, placing the emergency brakes on and removing the "dog bone" again, and the transmission in park. Both of you would then push the car forward after taking the emergency brakes off. This will tilt the engine forward but take caution not to tilt the engine to far forward in to the radiator and place the emergency brakes on.
3rd If you remover the horizontal crossbar inside the engine right in front of the windshield you can reach behind the engine and change the plugs without dismounting the engine. I recommend putting a piece of carpet or a pad over the top of the engine to protect it while you change the plugs.
