Good Day,

The check engine light is part of the car's OBD(On-Board Diagnostic) system. The check engine light is turned on when a sensor becomes faulty or gets a false reading. Typically the check engine light will come on and stay on until the sensor that caused the fault is replaced. In your case you say it comes on while driving, so I am assuming when you first start the car the light is off. This would inicate that the faulty sensor is operational until it is heated up, then it is giving a fault. Have you noticed any thing strange while the light is on? As in lower gas mileage, running rough, running fast, low idle, high idle, overheating, anything at all that could help indicate what the cause maybe. Does the check engine light stay on until you park the car? If so you can have the "code" read from the OBD to pinpoint hte exact problem.

Hope this helps for now

Disconnect both battery cables for 30 seconds and put them back on.If light comes on you need to have the problem checked out. Most (95%) the time your good to go after re-setting the check engine light. PLEASE RATE THIS!

Check engine. Light

The check engine light is commonly activated by a loose gas cap, regardless of vehicle make or model. Having said that, it could also be a more significant issue. You may want to err on the side of caution and schedule a maintenance.

If it's come on recently (especially if you noticed it shortly after refueling) and you don't notice any difference in the way the vehicle has been starting, handling, or otherwise operating, you can try to unscrew the gas cap, screw it back on based on the vehicle user manual or instructions printed directly on the cap (i.e. turn until three clicks, turn until hand tight), and drive the vehicle around for a few days. The light usually won't deactivate immediately after correcting the problem. You'll have to drive it around for a couple of days to a week in order for the check engine light to go away.

Fuses, check all of them. Check relays, sometimes tapping with the handle of a screwdriver will get a faulty one to work intermittenly. Check dimmer switch and light switch. IF you have driven through water with leaking headlight benzels/covers, then water may have blown both. Im leaning towards fuses/relays or light switch.

My car is "Vitz" .I am driving when engine

see this steps and fix it. God bless you
The Check Engine Light (which is actually the Malfunction Indicator Lamp or MIL) alerts you when an emissions-related problem occurs with the engine control system or emission controls on your vehicle. Depending on the nature of the problem, the Check Engine Light may come on and remain on continuously or flash. Some intermittent problems will make the Check Engine Light come on only while the fault is occurring (such as engine misfire). The Check Engine light usually remains on once a fault has been detected, and will remain on to remind you that a problem has occurred that needs to be investigated.
An illuminated Check Engine Light can be annoying because you don't know what's wrong, and whether or not the problem might be a serious one or just a minor fault. There is no way to know what the problem is until you plug a scan tool into the vehicle's diagnostic connector and read out the code(s) that turned the light on.
If no other warning lights are on, and the engine seems to be running normally (no unusual noises, smells, vibrations, etc.), you can assume the fault that is causing the Check Engine Light to come on is probably minor and won't hinder your ability to continue driving. But if other warning lights are on, you should probably stop and investigate the problem.
When the Check Engine Light comes on, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is recorded in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory that corresponds to the fault. Some problems can generate more than one trouble code, and some vehicles may have multiple problems that set multiple trouble codes.

My abs light comes on when I drive on the interstae/hwy when I hit 70mph. (I haven't noticed it come on any other time) my engine light is on but was told its an o2 sensor. I have a 2001 ford windstar....

well a check engine light can come on for a bad o2 sensor the abs light coming on at higher speeds i would look at the front axle joint for the pick up rings i see them rust and split that split throws off the speed reading and the abs computer see different wheel speeds due to the crack you can get a remain axle to repair it

I got a 2002 eclipse engine light is on took it to auto zone to get it checked but when they plug it up it gets no reading was told by a customer that there is a fuse to it wanted to know if that was true...

Hi there:
It really depends what the problem is, what caused the "Check Engine" to come on. It could be something really minor, but it also could be something more serious that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. In worst cases driving with the "Check engine" light may cause more damage to the vehicle. If your check engine light came on, I certainly recommend to have your car checked out as soon as possible to be on a safe side.

If the Check Engine light is flashing means that the engine computer (PCM) has detected that your engine is misfiring. Driving with misfiring engine could damage your catalytic converter, which is a very expensive part. Often the misfiring could be caused by bad spark plugs and wires; if you haven't done a tune-up in a while, it might be a good idea to do it now for a start.

Yes, OBD link could be relaced with OEM parts with your dealer.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.
