Question about 2000 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

I've replaced my battery but my battery light comes on as soon as I get above 30 mph. When I pull the pos. cable off the battery with the car running, the car runs but stumbles frequently. The alternetor seems new. Could it be bad ?

Never pull the cable off a car with a computer on it . You can damage many other components. Get the alternator checked by a real garage.

disconnect the battery and join the pos and neg cables together ,leave for a cup of tea and a ciggy then try again .this trick cures lots of faults on this model jaguar which is really a ford mondeo unlike my XJ4.0 straight six .Also go to www.jec.org the jaguars owners club web site ,

How to reset Service Engine Soon light after replacing gas cap? Took to AutoZone when the Service Engine Soon light came on Error code P0440.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. Reconnect after and the code will clear. However if the problem persists, the code will come back with in 20 miles or 30 minutes.

Reduce Engine light on; battery light on; low charge from charging system; vehicle won't run faster than 30 mph

You may have damaged the ECM with a power surge from shorting out the alternator. Try to reset the CPU program using a code reader and look for fault codes while you are at it

un hook your battery to reset the computer , if it persits you may have to change the esp sensor keep in mind once you disconnect the battery it will clear your error codes and it can not be read later.

Dash lights come on..mph gauge went down..radio cut out..loss of power in engine..kills batterie. While running, removed pos. batt. cable and engine died. Altenator problem??

You need to replace the Alternator. The vehicle died because you removed the power supply to all the accessories, if you remove the Negative cable and it dies then you know for sure it is the alternator. that is an old shade tree way to test the alternator.

Battery is constantly going dead. replaced battey and alternator and still having problems

Hi, What you describing to me sounds like you have a short some were. There is a little test you can do to see if this is your problem. Roll down window take key out make sure all accessories are off raise hood disconnect pos side of battery , if there is a hood light unplug it. With battery disconnected on pos side let set for 30 Min's to let all modules go to sleep. Then take a test light and hook on pos battery post ,then put other end of test light to pos cable see if test light come on if so you have a draw some were start at out side fuse box pull one at a time to see which one cuts test light off. when find the one that cuts it off see what all runs off that circuit. Then put fuse back and unplug each item on that circuit tell light goes out . that should be your problem.

also have you had any thing installed lately like radio, CB, amp
This will give you a good start with your problem. If i can help feel free to re post
Thanks dodge tec
