Running lean has new fuel and airfilters ign

Running lean has new fuel and airfilters ign timing is all over the palce when checked with a timing light , this car was dropped of to me to sort out , i have no info at all the plugs show lean and has a lean burn missfire , the plug show too much ign as the colur is nearly around to the body of the plug on the earth electrode . any idea , all the vauum lines and there are alot sem tobe in place . i have not put a vauum guage on the car yet. thanks for your help Ross from New zealand

Check MAP sensor. The timing is computer controlled and can be set when set timing mode is on.

Presuming you mean you want to get better fuel consumption with your Sonata, here is a list of things you can do:
New air filter (clean airfilter) - check monthly.
Clean airbox in which airfilter sits.
Run fuel injector cleaner every 3to4 tanks of fuel.
Make sure the sparkplugs are clean and gapped correctly. Check every 20,000km -replace every 100,000km or when fouled. Replace all at the same time. Use a very good brand of sparkplugs with platinum tips. (move up to a heat range 1 higher if your driving is 50/50 mixed city/highway.
Make sure the sparkplug wires are no more than 50 ohms in resistance, are not cracked, boots are in very good condition and seal up on the plug.
Empty you car of all un-needed materials.
Wash and wax the car frequently.
Make sure the tires are correctly inflated -- check once a month.

Sounds like you aren't getting enough fuel. Could be a plugged pump or a smashed fuel line. Check the fuel pressure at the engine.

Hi 2.6 rodeo isuzi 1997 egine wont idle or rev out also slight back fire through inlet manifold have tryed to fix im a mechanic tried changing mass air flow sensor as check light was on when fitted

Hi Bruce, The reset of the engine check light should be incorporated into your diagnostic equipment. Erase Fault Codes should do the job for you. I think that the fuel pump pressure is low. It should be about double the reading you have. (3.8 bar or 55.2 lbs per sq in) Replace the pump and fuel filter. In addition take some water and check that the intake manifold is not leaking air, as that would cause the problem you're reporting. If anyone has taken the distributor out check the setting again and the HT lead positions. Regards John

The engine is running too lean! That is what code P0171 means! Are you running a reusable/oiled airfilter by chance? Those foul up a rodeo MAF in no time. You can try to clean the MAF probe with electrical contact cleaner & cotton swabs, but most of the time they need to be changed out.

Engine is shaking and will not stay running in gear. I had the ignition module checked and it passed the test, I had the coils checked and they said they also passed the ohms test. I replaced the spark...

this does sound like a timing issue or the points in the ingition system are not set to the right gap. if the ignition leads look perrished they should be changes as sparks for the plugs might be shorting out on the engine case and not the plug. or from the coil to the distrbutor. i would check this first before playing with the timing.

other factors, to check before hand, maybe fuel air mix is wrong if the plugs are sooty they you mix is too rich and need adjustmet and if coated in while then its too lean.
also your airfilter may be blocking up or the breather cap on the fuel tank is blocked thus causing fuel starvation.
did this start to happen happen after filling up the car from a fuel can?
it could be that platic debris or paint from the inside of the can has got into the fuel tank and blocking up the fuel line.

Not running good.i have to put it in neutral when i stop so it doest stall out

check for a vacuum leak, sounds like a lean fuel condition, maybe a lean misfire... sometimes you can hear with your ears if it is a large enough vacuum leak, you need to preform a propane enrichment test, also check for a stuck open egr valve... also check all electric ign components... hope this helps, if it runs fine above idle at high rpm , lean towards a vacuum leak....

mass air flow sensor located ontop your airfilter or a clogged injector the mMAF sensor can be adjusted if ya know what your doin and take apart gently counter clockwise for more fuel /clockwise for more air

Egine chugs intermitently

sounds like it might be a vacuum problem check all the vacuum hoses and spray some wd40 around the base of the carburetor while idling. if the engine revs up then you have a carburetor base gasket problem or a leaking vacuum hose

Whats going on? Have you replaced your fuel pump relay?Also replace you main fuse,this is an 25amp,on the D/S fool well.
