As long as the transfer-case is a New Process Gear 233C Pro code NP1 which was used from 1995 to 2005 on the Blazers. Keep in mind also there there was the NP233C Pro code NP6 which was used in the years 1998 to 2005 and NP8 which was used from 199 to 2003 so your going to need to know which PRO code transfer case you have in your Blazer. You can look that up on your PRO sticker in your glove box and look for NP1 or NP6 which would indicate which transfer-case you have.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck.

Yes the trucks are the same but there were options in the way the 4wd system work. You need to make sure the 4wd system in your 2003 is the same one used in the 1995. As mentioned on the earlier post there are different system that could have been used in your Zr2 Blazer.

The pro code NP1 was used in the years from 1995 to 2005
The Pro code NP6 was used in the years from 1998 to 2005
The Pro code NP8 was used in the years from 1999 to 2005

You need to know which Pro code you have and if it's a NP1 then yes you can use the transfer-case from a 1995 blazer.

Transfer case troubleshooting

This could be several issue. On my 2003, it was 2 of the 5 transfer case switches. It was explained to me that if the sensors get corroded, that the system doesn't know what 4WD mode your truck is in, causing it to lock into that mode. With my 2003, I caught it on a good day and moved my 4WD selector to AWD. That way, I could drive it on dry land as well as have some AWD capability in the rain and snow. It knocked my MPG down, but it worked for me. The cost to replace the 5 sensors (recommend replacing all b/c the labor is high due to having to drop the transfer case to get to the sensors on top) was around $800 at my local import dealer. Twice that price at the Mitsubishi dealer.

I have a 2003 Envoy and 4 lo works but 4 hi and awd doesn't?!?!?

It's a good possibility that some of the clutches in the transfer case are shot. When was the last time the transfer case fluid was changed? It needs to be changed every 50K miles using GM AutoTrak II fluid.

Can I drive in 2 wheel drive without oil in the transfer case

I wouldn't do this except in case of an emergency. Part of the system is going to free wheel but there is a part of it that is going to engage.

Transfer case leak 2003 montero sport

Check to see if :
(1)- transfer case is overfilled. If so drain to proper level.
(2)-Vent is clogged or jammed closed. Clean or replace vent.
(3)-Output shaft seal incorrectly installed or damaged. Replace the seal and check contact surface for nicks and scoring.

Hope this helps.

Ned to change the oil in transfer case

The Z71 typically comes with the auto 4wd transfer case (cannot remember the GM number). This requires AutoTrak II, which is available at a GM dealer. Do not use any other fluid in this transfer case! The previous post was correct in the location of the two plugs, but not on the fluid (the other types of transfer cases by GM use ATF). The transfer case is located under the truck right under the cab. There is a small skid plate under it, and a large driveshaft leaves the rear end of the case heading to the rear differential (axle). If you have the manual or electronic w/o auto 4WD transfer case, you can use Dexron III, but Dexron VI is a better fluid that is also now available at your local auto parts store. Again, if you have the AUTO 4WD button in the dash, use the AutoTrak II fluid from the dealer.
