Question about 2004 Ford F150

1 Answer

I just bought 2004 f150 4x4 today and heard a horrible noise when I drove it home. Took it back to the dealer and they described it as moisture in the 4x4 and it was trying to engage when it shouldn't. They also said Ford put out a service bulletin for a deffective shield that would solve the problem (believe the code was 1980). My question is, how extensive of an issue is this? I bought an extended warranty for the truck, but the dealer said they would "make it right," but I don't have a lot of confidence in the dealership. The exhaust also fell off and I had to string it up to take it back to the dealer. They fixed it, but obviously don't feel to good about the truck I bought TODAY. Just looking for some advice as I am feeling a bit stressed.

First of all,go back to them, tell them you are contacting a lawyer because I believe most states have a 30 day 'lemon law'.It is pretty obvious that they were aware of the situation.Your exhaust already fell off, which is not a good sign. You really should demand your money back and go elsewhere.BEFORE you buy a used car,you should take it to a AAA approved shop and pay the $100 or whatever they may charge to check it over.If the dealer will not let you, that is a bad sign from the start.Things like this disgust me.That is why I joined here to inform and educate people such as you who do not have the knowledge and ARE EASILY ripped off by the industries who are involved. Please look at my profile. It has a very small character limit so that is all I could post.I have knowledge of practically anything you can plug in as well as cars. Also, contact the bank you have the loan from. They should be willing to help to some extent,or at least point you in the right direction. But once you start talking lawyers lemon laws and your rights, that should produce some fairly quick response. If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

why not get the car checked out.??? buy a SHOP
you shut the engine off, and when you do, that it coasts to a stop
and did the noise come from the engine bay? and did the noise happen as engine was coasting to its natural stall or after that?
noises that happen, not moving are easy to find. so
get a competent mech, to find it. it be easy for them.

Engine dies while driving

Faulty transponder antannae at the ignition switch if the car is equipped with a transponder key. Have the security module looked at if the antannae at the ignition is good. If it is the security module a dealer will have to program your keys to the new module. If you know a good locksmith with a tko or other programmer you might be able to save some money over having a dealer install it.

If your jeep is not equipped with a transponder then look into the ignition and fuel system. The problem you described however is common with transponder issues though.

Front Drive Shaft

The transfer case for the front wheels is bad that is why they were removed in the first place. Most people don't want to pay that much money to get it fixed that is why they remove them and just drive it as a two wheel drive vehicle. If you want to fix it you will need a new transfer case you might try a used one but there is no telling as to if it is good or how long it will last.

Dodges have a gear reduction in the starter, usually. It could be wearing out. Have it checked out at a rebuild shop.

Is it running rough as well? If so sounds like the timing chain may have jumped.

Struts fail after car put on lift for tires at Sears

This is a known problem with the REAR struts, but not the front. This repair under warranty will have to be decided by the DPSM (District Parts Service Manager) serving that dealership. Good Luck.

Rear struts failed after dealer put car on lift.

you have a reason to be doubtful. very seldom would something like that occur unless the srut was near it's peak functionming and starting to fail. the strut is always under pressure because of the spring so " not meshing sounds bogus to me. i have been a mechanic for over 20 years and i can't give you one example of this happening on your model of car or any other models. to be quite honest a strut that fails only after 4-5 years very seldom happens to begin with. but does happen. my advice is to take it to a small shop whjere the quality of work is better and the cost cheaper and have them examine it. let me know what they say and get back to me. just click my user name on this site i will be more than happy to help you further if there is more questions that you have

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 318 wont start

this problem is not unusual ,without seeing the car as i have no product knowledge with american built cars as such, but if it has one coil and not a coil pack then its the ignition module ,these often go just as you describe .Stop car to pop in shop and then no go,this is not the dealers fault they just pack up ,ask dealer nicely and no doubt they will send someone around to put a new one in for you .
