Question about 1999 Ford Crown Victoria
A lot of people call the PCM/Powertrain Control Module the "Master Computer". This is probably the most important computer in the car. If this is what you mean, and your Crown Vic is a 1999 model, then it is inside up behind the dash on the firewall above the parking brake. It is a rectangular metal can that sits on a hole in the firewall and has a connector attached to it in the engine compartment at the firewall to the right of (when looking at it from the front of the car) of and below the master brake cylinder. There is a large black connector with a slightly odd looking hex screw in the center and a bunch of wires coming out of the bottom of it that might be wrapped in tape, plastic ties and that corrugated plastic tubing like the wiring coming out of the black plastic boxy thing right under the brake cylinder.
That metal can controls the engine and transmission, and cruise control. It also controls the A/C compressor by stopping it when you accelerate hard so you don't lose engine power when you need it.
There is another computer in a can inside high up behind the center of the dash that controls other functions and another computer - a very simple computer - that is simply a board with relays on it that controls the lighting that is under the dash to the right of the steering column.
