i have already checked all relays and fuses i even changed the relays with the same number to another position and still i don t get power, in the same box that you mention there are other fuses and the are identified in the cover i also check those doyou feel that a sensor can cut the power to the pump trough the computer, ie, th cps crank position sensor, or any other sensor, i suspect that a sensor located in air the intake, if you look from the front off the car is located to the right where the buterfly valves are, its a holly product i dont have the nr

55 42 codes that showed in the odometer before i rotated the relays after that i think i got a 12 55 but still the main problem is that there i sno power tothe pump, another detail is that even with the electrical conections unpluged the gage shows like if it is full o gas

  • corinal Dec 29, 2010

yes you are assuming correct, there is spark, the main problem is that there is is no gas pressure in the rail, i tried locating ckp but i cant find it under the manifold, the other sensor i mention is the trotle position , if you can think of a better solution that i can try please let me know, in my country is already 10. 30 night, so i wont bother you any longer thanks

  • corinal Dec 29, 2010

iwas more concern about your time than mine, my engine is 8 cyl 5.2 the car is grand cherokee laredo 1997, is there a way to find out if the ckp is the problem with out dismountig it, maybe a wire plug to test,

Code 55 means end of code message and is normal. Code 42 is related to the ASD (auto shut down) relay that is located in the PDC (power distribution control) box under the hood. it is a black box with a removable top. In this box you will see a series of fuses and relay's. The underside of the cover will help identify which one is the ASD. Replace the ASD (there not a lot of money) and see if this works, it should, If not, there is a larger issue with this circuit.

You have a code from the PCM telling that the ASD relay circuit is at fault, but you have replaced this relay??????????? And still have a no start? Then why is the code still showing up?

  • GetMeOttaHere Dec 29, 2010

Crankshaft position sensor could be the issue, but a code should have come up for this engine management component also. Try replacing the CKP. I'm assuming the engine has good spark also.

  • GetMeOttaHere Dec 29, 2010

The CKP is mounted on the trans bell housing right side looking at the engine, and is the sensor that signals the fuel pump frequency. This is a 4.0l right?

I'm not bothered by the replies, the more info the better for a solution to this issue. It is hard sometimes to communicate via email and repair or start a diagnosis via email, but we do it all the time.

  • GetMeOttaHere Dec 29, 2010

Testing a CKP requires a scope to test it correctly. It is best to replace it if it is considered suspect, and at this point, the cheapest and easiest thing to do. I will say it is odd the ASD relay was coded and replaced, and this problem still exists.

Code 12 indicates the battery was disconnected, and it will clear itself after 50 key on cycles. Not to worry about this code either, it is normal when the battery is disconnected at some point.

How would I test my fuel pump?Where is it located? Could the fuel filter be the problem? My 4 Runner cranks over, but no fuel, (full tank). This happened after I went through 1'-2' snow, then sat idling...

In the engine compartment, find the diagnostic test connector. It's a small black plastic box with a cover on it marked "DTC". Flip open the cover and note the terminal map on the inside. You want to jump terminals FP and +B with a jumper wire or paper clip. Turn the ignition switch to on but do not attempt to crank the engine. Remove the fuel cap at the tank filler inlet and listen for the pump to run. This procedure bypasses the fuel pump relay, the EFI fuse, the EFI main relay, and the circuit opening relay. If the pump runs, one of those is probably faulty.

Stalls while driving; wait 40 minutes it starts trhen stalls after 1/2 mile

you need to detemine if the problem is fuel (lack of) or ignition. Connect fuel pressure guage to fuel rail and drive and observe fuel prssure when it stalls out. if the fuel pressure stays within spec. then check for lost ign. spark and or injector pulse. If both spark and pulse are missing most likely you need a crank position sensor.

My 1995 Lincoln Town Car starts when it wants to

The next time your Town Car fails to start, Try holding the throttle open slightly and cranking the engine. If it starts and will stay running while holding the throttle, it is likely that the Idle Air Control valve will need replaced. The valve is bolted to the upper intake right behind the throttle body.

check the fuel pump relay! It sounds like it is one of your relays. If it was an electrical or sensor problem, the check engine light would be on.
