Question about 2001 Toyota 4Runner

Vsc/traction and check engine light (orange lights) click on after about 5-10 sec turning on the car

This has happened in the past-went to few different mechanics where they scrolled through the computer and it said something about the exhaust? How ever-another time I was told was that it was a solenoid around the gas tank area. Parts were repalced about a year ago. I then had recent brake work done(new pads, rotors resurfaced, tires rotated. Thes lights di not come on immediately, but a few days after. It seems coincidental that it has occurred in the past following tire/brake work and it has been going on intermittently for two years. I have already put probably almost $1000 into this problem between them running the computer, parts and labor-I cannot believe this is an issue again and the part that is the greatest problem to me is that the vsc does not work, and the four wheel drive as well when these lights click on.

went rafting for the weekend and noticed that, the loaded truck was running a little rough around 1500rpm - 2200rpm. The next day; the check engine and the VSC on and the VSC off lights went on.
We have 240 000kms on the truck and have serviced everything but the front/center/rear diff.
For the last few months we have been letting the fuel get down to the low fuel light. Has this caused the problem or had something to do with it?

I'm just a little worried that I'm going to spend 1000s of dollars to fix many things that might be the problem, and find out that it is the last thing they check/fix. This just seams to be the way that everyone else has had to deal with this problem.
Hope I get some good feed back, Cheers!

vsc and vsc track ligths are on plus check engine, diferential liquids repaced 1 week ago front and back. is tthis and emission problem or just a blown up fuse? car performance is normal.

New mechanic suggested avoiding driving through deeper puddles-I have avoided them since and the lights have not come on again. My greatest concern when the lights came on was not whether it was drivable. but more that it could not be put into 4 wheel drive and the skid control did not engage.

What is the code(s) that it is throwing? If its a P0446 only, then the likely culprit is the VSV valve located on the charcoal canister. It could be a NUMBER of things, getting the code(s) is the first step. -C

I have the same problem on my 2001 4Runner. I have been told and also researched that it has something to do with the fuel pressure and making sure the gas cap is on tight enough. The solution I have used...with minimal to disconnect the battery which resets the VSC/traction/check engine light. Sometimes I can go two months without it coming back on and sometimes it comes back on in one day.

I wish Toyota would do a recall on this because it is more annoying that mechanically troublesome.

I have had the same problem, i recently took mine to a mechanic and he says its the abs pump or one of the individual abs pump sensors located on each of the tires, makes sense, cause I originally thought it might be my master cylinder with the noise I am hearing as well.

Had the same problem. It was the sensor. Picked one up used at junk yard for 50.

Check the trouble code that is causing check engine light to come on and repair that. That should take care of all the lights if they all came on at the same time

to fix both VSC and engine light faults /codes

VSC is brake /traction related ..... this is one explanation

It would appear that system braking, traction control, and possibly some anti rollover control is dis abled if this warning light is on. So it is both fuel in efficient and possibly dangerous to drive with this light on.

engine light

there are stored fault codes in the engine computer module pointing to faulty sensors on the car needing to be checked or replaced

VSC Trac and VSC Off and Check Engine lights are on. The lights were reset last week and they have come back on. What is my problem most likely and what are the costs going to be?

The computer turns your traction control off when it sets the check engine light. Thats why VSC lights come on at the same time. Have the local parts store see what code you are getting to find the problem.

I have a 2003 lexus gs 300..the check engine light came on and the VSC OFF traction control came on and it stays on...i tried to turn if off, but the light just stays on

vsc shuts down any time check engine light comes on. repair engine light problem, reset computer monitoring system and vsc light will go off. must scan computer to pull codes for check engine light and go from there.

VSC OFF, Check engine and traction control lights are on

I would suggest having your mechanic scan the computer for viable trouble codes. WIthout that information, it is hard to determine the exact cause of your problem.

However, my experiences with the Tundra leads me to suggest that you have a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor...A concise scan and any codes would alow us to really help you out a lot better.

My Toyota, 2001 4 Runner, has just had (within the last 45 miles driven) the VSC OFF light the VSC TRACTION light and the Check Engine light come on. What do I need to do and how did this...

any time your check engine light comes on it will turn off the vsc. you need to have your codes pulled for your check engine light and repair that issue then the vsc off light will go out as well. you can stop at your local parts store"autozone" and they will be able to pull your code once you have your code i can assist you in the proper repair
