Truck starts fine and goes into gear, but I can put the gas pedal to the floor and nothing happens. Gauges don't work either. The truck just sits there idling. The problem started when I hooked to a heavy trailer. Don't know if that has anything to do with it

What often happens is the switch on the brake pedal gets knocked around by the driver's feet. This switch is suppose to be a safety switch to insure that your foot is on the brake pedal before it lets the starter work. On some models another safety switch is on the gear shift to insure that the vehicle is in Park or Neutral. If your vehicle is a stick-shift they sometimes put the switch on the clutch lever to make sure you do not try to start the car in gear.
I'm not to sure on this one but i had a very similar problem with one of my cars it turned out to the the throttle position sensor had gone bad. In my case though everything was fine till the car heated up. Then I never know what was going to happen. Most the time at lights my care would just stall when i hit the gas. I though it was a vacuum hose issue but there was no leek. If the
throttle position sensor is not working or is not working like it should then the engine will not respond to the gas pedal being hit. Or will rev real high when not being hit. I hope this helps you and solves you issue!
It seems that there is a battery draw that is shorting out the fuse. you need to trace the wire back to the point of power and see what is going on. My theory would be that some place in the power out (from the fuse) it is grounding to the chassis. I wouldn't even be able it give you and idea where to start considering how many wires there are, but if you can isolate that wire and chase it back to the cluster and the gauges you will find the issue.
If it happens in all gears then the out put shaft is worn. If it only happens in reverse then find out from your cousin where he had it repaired from .It might be still under warranty. If not take it to a tranny repair shop sounds like oil pump in converter may be weak 0r reverse gear or its idler is worn.
I have the same problem,, put all new brake components on truck, needed it anyway,, found out that the booster is not designed for a diesel application,, ford made a model change for the diesel,, number from ford is F 5 T Z - 2005 CA a zero loss booster,, have ordered on will put on when arrives, $240. good luck,,
You should check the wiring for the gear shift. Sometimes the wires rub through on the top and it causes a short.F2.45 is a 10a fuse in fuse box located in the cab. It controls all three of your concerns. Hope this helps, Good Luck.
The trick to driving a manual transmission is giving gas very gently
while letting the clutch up. The clutch only starts to engage when the
pedal is about an inch and a half from the floor, so any gas you give
before that will cause unecessary revving. To get a feel for when
the clutch engages, try the following excercise. Put the car in first
gear and bring the clutch up ever so slowly without giving gas. At a
certain point you will feel the clutch starting to engage and hear a
difference in the sound of the engine. If you're bringing the clutch up
too fast the car will stall. If you bring it up slowly enough the clutc
will start to engage and you will begin to advance.
This excercise will develop your motor skill to manipulate the clutch
effectively and will allow you to know exactly when to give gas when
letting the clutch up.
