Not a good idea if you have head gasket out it needs replaced changing oil wont help cause as soon as you start car it will start pumping water into oil . Oil with water in it can't lubricate the motor
bars stop leak will not help at all for a bad head gasket
unless you want to change oil DAILY i wouldn't recommend even driving car all you are going to do is cause more problems

I pulled my granny low 4speed transmission and transfer case out of my 1980 Chevy k20 now it won't line up and go all the way to the block to bolt up. Why??

if it is from a different vehicle , make sure that the line up dwell, are not on both the engine and transmission, remove the easier ones out. and try again

I have a 1989 chevy 1500 4x4 manual transmission i locked it in 4 wheel drive and then i had to shut it off and now its stuck low first and wont come out of granny gear low firzt

any stress or strain on the 4by4 will hold the shifters from moving...need to find a level spot..and rock the truck back and forth to find a "wek spot" where the shifters will move..also unlock the front end if possible..good luck..

How do I find 4 high on my 1974 Chevy K20 silverado truck

4 lo is all the way forward toward the firewall or engine compartment, 4 high is all the way back toward seats. the second position forward from the seat would be 2 high the 3 position forward from the seat would be a nuetral position for the transfercase.

1993 Chevy Silverado 4x4 1500 - transmission problem: in drive shifts from 1 to 2, but not always to 3rd gear - never 4th - shifts into 3rd only at high engine RPM. There appears to be a pan leak as...

If you have no overdrive at all, and virtually no third, then it's time for an overhaul. The 3-4 clutches have failed, a common problem in this trans since 1981. Yes, 1981. Your trans is a 4L60-E that is computer controlled. In 1981 it was called a THM700-R4, and was hydraulically controlled. The input clutch drum is basically the same as it was in 1981, and the 3-4 clutches are prone to failure, usually around 130,000 to 150,000 kms (75,000 to 90,000 miles).

Need number off trans Is it a top load shifter goes right into trans or side linkage. If it is a side linkage 3 speed with overdrive (4 speed) it is a A833/Overdrive 4 (no granny gear just normal 1st gear) Otherwise it's a top load NP435 or NP445 the last two are HD units Your truck is 2wd with a 225 (3.7L) slant six and your the 7th owner

I have a 1991 stock dodge W150 4wd truck with a 4 speed, I need to know what are the shift points? !st seems like a granny

I have an identical truck, 1991 Ram W150 with a 318 4speed bull low. They're called a bull low (bo low, granny four speed, farmers 4-spd) because theyre really only built for towing heavy loads, theyre a farm tractor transmission. You should never use first unless your towing a load, start in 2nd. I dont rev it too high when I shift mine. Best tranny for offroading by far, it really delivers the torque to crawl up tricky paths.

My truck will drive in N

Check the gear shifter lever. Also check the transmission. Also it indicates  linkage problem. The shift lever marker is showing you are in one gear when you are really in another. Check the other gears. Drive down the street with the marker in low see if it changes gears . i.e. it should not change. You can look at the tranny and find the linkage there should be marks on the linkage where the clamps have slipped.
If it cuts off due to it bogging down then it is a transmission problem loading up the motor .Check the transmission.
Get the car scanned at www.autozone.com to get the error codes.
As per the error codes you can get the exact faulty part replaced. Its free to get car scanned at www.autozone.com service center.
Thanks.

I have a jeep cj7 with a 4.2 liter engine & a muncie 4 speed w/granny gear and i try to take off in second gear or even shift into second the jeep does not want to go or dies

I have not had this particular transmission apart, but it sounds like that gear may be locked up.......??? may need to have it fixed. If jeep runs in all the other gears, I would definately believe that it is in the second gear only.
