Yes it could be the starter. As for an exploded view...There's only 2-15mm bolts (some are 14) that hold it in. One nut on the trigger wire (8mm) and the main power lead. It comes right out without a problem. Check the main power lead from the battery to ensure it's not in contact with the exhaust manifold. That could be a very real time possibility and send the 9 volts to the gauge. Pass side @ the bell housing. Please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.

98 chevy lumina wont start replaced starter and VATS relay only get click no crank what next?

Hey Todd how's it going ? How's the battery ? battery connections ? Are there any lights lit on the dash , security , check engine ? Because your getting a clicking there is nothing wrong with the theft deterrent relay ! Take a volt meter on the 20 volt scale an put negative lead at the negative battery post , then take your positive lead an put it on s terminal small wire on the starter solenoid an have someone turn the key to start position , you should see battery voltage . If you see battery voltage there is nothing wrong with the theft deterrent relay ! or the crank circuit. You need to do a voltage drop test on the starting system ! I'm thinking possible battery cable ! Starter Voltage Drop . you do know that you replaced a starter for no good reason !

Battery light stays on

Batteries are difficult to test properly. They must be tested under load to determine the internal resistance... once the internal resistance is too high then you must replace the battery. Using a multimeter test the voltage. Write it down. Then turn on the headlights maybe even the radio and the blower, wipers etc (leaving the engine off) then take a voltage reading again. A charged battery should be near 14 volts readings below 12 volts shows a bad battery.

Engine won't start and if starter is replaced does it have any other problems

Engine wont start. If car battery voltage is low then engine wont start. The fully charged battery will show 12 volt. But if battery is showing 12 volt. Then check the battery to starter connection. If that is also checked ok then check voltage for starter itself. The starter is also a 12 volt part. But if the starter is faulty then it has to be replaced. If you start the car but if its not starting then its starter fault. But if the car makes cranking noise but its not getting turn over then there are many other possibilities. But if the car is not even cranking then its faulty starter.Get this checked and confirmed before replacing any part. This should help.Thanks. 97 Escort that failed to start a couple times-obviously not enough from the battery. Had it tested at a parts store they said replace battery which I did. Started car and "battery" light is on in dash. Had...

You should be able to to check for voltage directly at the the largest of the wires going to the alternator[black with an orange tracer].If you have no power then you have a blown fusible link, from the starter solenoid to the positive battery post.]If you have power then you either need a new rectifier put in the alternator or the charge lamp bulb is blown.

I am trying to tell if my alternator or battery is shot she starts up with a jumper cable and a light on the dash shows and exclamination point with a circle around it its a 2002 audi a4 quarto

once you get it started, while its running, simply disconnect the positive battery wire. if the car stays running then your altenator is fine, and its the battery thats bad. if it dies immediately, then the altenator is shot and battery is fine.

When i turn the key over it clicks but it wont start

I presume you have a good battery. The next thing I would check is the starter motor, then the ignition switch. If it doesn't start at all it may be the auto relay switch.

1985 dodge powerwagon, lights went dim driving home now wont start, just replaced battery 6 months ago. starter clicked at first then nothing.

The alternator may not be charging the battery. Jump start it, and use a volt meter at the battery, red lead to positive and black to neg. The meter should read between 13 and almost 15 volts, any lower than 13 volts, the alternator is no good. (this is done with vehicle running).

Battery indicator light on.

Check the alternator at the battery terminal with a voltage guage and engine running. At the battery terminal with engine OFF voltage should be at least 12volts with engine running it should be at least 14volts. If it Not 14 volts with engine running then the alternator is UNDER charging and will trigger the light on the dash. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA.

Batt or alt?

The battery won't just quit so suddenly, you'll know when it's almost dead, so it could be the alternator. If you can get the car started, check the voltage on the battery while the car is running, if it's below 12.8 - 13 volts, then the alternator isn't charging and it may need replacement, or repair. Good luck!
