Question about Ford Fairmont
If you get new ignition switch then you get new key with it.But if you want to use your old key then you will have to get your old key reprogrammed by dealer or from local lock smith who deals with car key programming. ----------- To replace ignition switch:--- Disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery. Then remove the steering shroud.the switch is located inside the steering shroud assembly.the shroud and steering are fitted by few screws.Remove those screws. This will separate the steering and shroud. The shroud will come out.First remove upper half and then remove lower half of the shroud from steering assembly. Once this is done. The ignition switch will be easily seen, just remove the screws holding ignition switch and disconnect the wiring harness from ignition switch. There you will see few clips holding the harness. Carefully UN-lock the clips to loosen the wiring harness. the switch is out.Now in the same way reinstall the new ignition switch in reverse position as you removed the old one. ------------------------------- this will help.thanks.Helpmech.
