Transmission is slipping when i first take off and when i turn.is that a u joint problem?

If you're sure the transmission is slipping then it's not a universal joint causing it.

Classic test for loose universal joint in driveshaft: you'll feel the car vibrate, vibration will increase with speed. Getting on and off the throttle when you moving will cause the vibration to change- might get better, might get worse but it'll change each time you let off the throttle and then push it again.

Are you sure the transmission is slipping? If you feel that it is then the first thing to do is check the transmission oil. If it's low then top it up, that may solve the problem. Smell it, if the transmission is slipping it'll have a burned smell and will be other than nice bright red in color. If it's slipping you'll also see dark matter in suspension in the oil and the oil color will range from dark red to black.

If it's definitely slipping but the oil isn't too black yet you can sometimes get more use from it by putting a thick transmission goop in it- be sure the transmission is warm when you pour it in and drive it a few miles to give the goop a chance to mix in well.

My ford escort quit moving in the middle of an intersection. Engine was still running, but car quit. I hgeard a "clunk" as I was turning. what could have happened?


Most likely one of the CV [constant velocity] universal joints on one of the drive shafts broke.
If it is an automatic transmission, something in the transmission may have broken; but automatic transmissions usually give other symptoms like slipping before actually breaking with a clunk.
If it is a manual transmission, it could be the clutch or the transmission that went clunk.

Transmission slipping sometimes could it be bad CV


Automatic transmission slipping is usually a result of old or insufficient transmission oil . When was the last time you changed this and installed a new filter. If that does not fix it you have worn bands or torque converter. CV joints don't slip they fail and usually after considerable noise.

There could be many reasons relating to this problem. But inspect the cv joints at the transmission side. Inner joint of one of the cv joints may have slipped out of its position.

Sounds like U-joint. Also check front driveline shaft on 4x4, sympathetic motion can sometimes turn shaft when not in 4x4 mode.

With play in U-joint, joint slips to one side as Torque pushes against flange to turn driveshaft. Basically U-joint is cocked and shaft is not running true to center plane.

Also worth checking are front c-v joints if 4x4 vehicle. Pretty much the same problem can exist with these small joints as with the big joints on your driveshaft.

The last areas are the motor mounts and transmission mounts. These can cause the same problems you describe. And remember that sound transmits differently through metal.

Transmission jerks into gear when turning corners at a normal speed


Check your transmission fluid level; if OK, check outer CV joints; if OK, flush transmission fluid and change the filter. Also "BG Transmission" is great for torque converters and transmission slipping.

is that joint right there a U-joint or CV? Anywho check for play at that joint, There may be a little at the slip yoke, where the tailshaft comes out of the transfer-case , but nowhere else should have any. If those joints are loose: replace U-joint While your under there you might as well check the front drive-shaft also.

Rt front axle broke how to repair


If there is no other damage aside from the outer CV joint being out.

1. Jack car up and support on jack stand on the affected side.
2. Remove wheel
3. Remove center hub nut
4. Turn wheels all the way to one side or the other. This is to gain access to the lower ball joint. One way will be easier than the other depending on how the bolt is installed.
5. Remove lower ball joint bolt and nut
6. Separate the ball joint by using a large pry bar or pipe to push the control arm down and hit side of joint with hammer.
7. Once joint has released pry down to free control arm from ball joint shaft.
8. Now tap the outer cv joint part still trapped in the hub out
9. Remove remaining axle from transmission by using a pry bar to pry it out of the transmission.
10. Reinstall new axle into transmission and then start into hub. Make sure to shove axle firmly into transmission so as to get past the C-clip lock.
11. Pry lower control arm down to allow the ball joint to be reassembled. Slip ball joint shaft back into control arm.
12. Reinstall bolt and nut
13. Install hub nut
14. Install wheel

HOW DO YOU TAKE THE DRIVE SHAFTS OFF A 2002 DODGE DURANGO


To remove the drive shaft you will need to raise the vehicle off the ground and support it with jack stands. There are 4 bolts that hold the rear drive shaft u-joint in the pinion yoke on the rear differential. Once you remove the bolts and u-joint straps, then just carefully pry the u-joint from the yoke. Be careful not to let the u-joint caps slip off of the u-joint or you could lose the needle bearings that are in the u-joint caps. Once you have freed the shaft at the rear you can just slip the drive shaft rearward to remove it from the transmission. Place a drain pan under the transmission where the drive shaft is connected, as transmission fluid will run out, and you don't want it dripping on the ground. If you vehicle is four wheel drive and you want to remove the front drive shaft, you remove it just like the rear shaft but there are bolts and straps on both ends of the front one. You will probably need to keep the front shaft from turning while you loosen the bolts. You can use a long screwdriver or pry bar inserted in to the area between the u-joint and the yoke.

Hate to the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like one of the gears in the transmission is shot (namely the ring and pinion gear.) One thing to check and see is to look under the hood and look at where the CV joints enter the transmission. Have someone put it into gear while you look. See if the output shafts of the transmission is turning, but the inner CV joint is not.

Much as I hate to say it, you picked a bad car for a beginning driver. Parts are expensive for this car, and sometimes hard to come by.
