Question about 1999 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

1999 toyota corolla. It is a manual transmission and when I place it in gear it does not want to go. It just revs up really high but acts as if it does not want go. I changed the gear oil to see if this would help.

I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla. Last year, my Dad was driving it when 4th gear kept popping out and he eventually had to physically hold it in gear. Now it can no longer shift into 4th gear, even whil

Most likely it's missing transmission oil. Instead of holding it in, he should have checked the level of oil and added some if needed. Now the transmission is probably damaged and the repair will be much more than just adding oil. Sorry.

After checking the easy stuff first like low oil level, if it is high RPM(revs) & shifts hard(lurch when it does shift) then I am thinking the transmission filter & oil need to be changed. The transmission filter acts as a suction screen on an automatic transmission & as it collects contaminants to protect the inner workings of the transmission, it becomes plugged which greatly affects the ability to shift especially the high gears at faster acceleration.

1999 corrolla with a manual transmission and when it is in gear it does not want to go it just revs up real high

It sounds like your throwout bearing has gone out, or your clutch discs have burnt themselves up. Either way, expect to simply replace the clutch and bearing together. It will cost around $1,200, but it should be good for another 200,000 miles or more on it!

Corolla Having trouble shifting

This could be a kick-down servo adjustment.

Refer to the service manual.
